You’ve had a glimpse…

Now step into the laboratory.

The Alchemy Tool Cabinet is finally revealed.

But “revealed” may be the wrong word, because there is no single place to look on this cabinet. Gears, botanical fragments, aged metal, ornate details, curiosities and forgotten relics pull your eye in every direction.

The front tells one story.

The sides tell another.

And even the top has something to say.

This is a cabinet that asks you to slow down—to look again, then look closer.

Because sometimes the best discoveries are hiding in plain sight.

A glimpse into the Mad Alchemist's laboratory…

Where gears become curiosities, flowers become relics, and every surface seems to conceal another secret.

The Alchemy Tool Cabinet is a highly detailed mixed-media creation steeped in gothic mystery, steampunk machinery, and the peculiar beauty of an alchemist's forgotten world.

And this is only a glimpse.

What if the surface became part of the ornament?

This is one of those moments in the studio where a perfectly good idea usually gets a little more complicated.

I began with a stencil and Majas Mural Paste, building texture directly onto the surface. While it was still wet, I started placing four different Nik-Art moulds into the wet gesso—letting the dimensional elements become part of the surface rather than simply sitting on top of it.

Because why use one layer of detail when several can become one?

I don't always know exactly where a piece is going when I begin. Sometimes the smallest element starts the question:

What if…?

And then the Mad Alchemist follows the rabbit hole. 🖤

What if the flowers weren't the first thing you noticed?

Turquoise Beauty has always had a way of making people stop.

At first, perhaps it's the colour.
Then the flowers draw you closer.

But look again.

There are layers beneath those blooms—pattern, shadow, worn edges, subtle shifts of colour—details that begin to appear only when you stop looking at the dresser and start looking into it.

That is where the interesting part begins.

Because when I create a piece, I'm rarely asking myself how can I make this pretty?

I'm asking:

What if...?

What if the pattern could feel as though it had been there before the flowers?
What if the shadows could make the surface feel deeper?
What if the finish could tell a story rather than simply decorate the furniture?

And then, somewhere along the way, the question changes.

Wait... what am I seeing?

That's the moment I hope for.

Because perhaps the most interesting thing about furniture art isn't the first glance.

It's the second one.

Some pieces begin with a colour.

Others begin with a transfer.

Madame Camille began with an atmosphere.

Layered stencil texture, custom paint blends, and vintage and brocante powders became part of the surface, creating a finish that feels collected over time rather than newly created.

The dress form became the heart of the design, surrounded by faded florals, worn textures, and shadows that softened the transitions between each layer.

I've always imagined her in an old dressmaker's studio, where every mark, every layer, and every detail carried a story of its own.

Perhaps that's why she continues to be one of my most popular pieces.

Flowers may catch the eye, but shadows create the story.

I've always believed that a dresser doesn't have to be confined to a bedroom. A beautifully designed piece can become a focal point in any room, adding both function and atmosphere.

With Arctic Bloom, I was drawn to the natural shading within the hellebores. The muted purples and soft greys influenced the layered, textured finish and guided the direction of the design.

Every piece has its own unique characteristics, but for me, it's often the shadows that bring everything together.

They create depth.

They soften transitions.

They add atmosphere.

And sometimes, they're the very thing that transforms a piece of furniture into something that feels like art.

There are moments in the creative process when a single detail asks a simple question.

What if?

Sometimes it's a piece of lace.

Sometimes it's a scrap of decoupage.

Sometimes it's an unexpected detail that quietly sparks an entirely different direction.

Antoinette was one of those pieces.

The lace became part of the finish rather than an embellishment. Scrollwork was separated and redesigned. Florals extended beyond the surface and evolved into dimensional details that seemed to climb and grow.

I've always imagined those roses as a trellis slowly making its way across the wall of an old manor.

For me, furniture art has never been about following a formula.

It's about allowing one small idea to lead to another and seeing where the experiment takes you.

Perhaps that's why Antoinette still feels so special to me.

Some pieces are meant to be seen. Others are meant to create an atmosphere.

This Brunswick Victrola is one of my own personal pieces—and an exploration in drama, depth and ambience.

Layer upon layer of colour, texture and shadow creates a surface that changes with the light, while the florals emerge from the darkness rather than simply sitting upon it.

A little darkness.
A little decadence.
A little mystery.

And then there's the part you can't see...

Yours truly installed a modern turntable inside so this 100-year-old beauty can spin my 1970s rock & roll albums. 😂

Because apparently even vintage has to accommodate a little rock & roll.

This is what happens when a finish becomes part of the narrative. 🖤
