Since then, the club has grown into a vibrant community of over 350 paddlers who enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddling. The Barrie Canoe & Kayak Club (BCKC) was established in 1977. From the initial membership of 20 canoeists, the club membership has grown to over 300 canoeists, kayakers, and SUPists alike. Statement of Purpose:
Our purpose is to unite paddlers for the protection of thei

r interests, for the improvement of their skills and the promotion of all aspects of paddle related activities. Our volunteers work in the spirit of a service, non-profit, community-oriented organization to further the welfare of the community as a whole through the promotion of water safety and improved recreational skills. 🇨🇦🎆 What a Canada Day!

What a night to remember! The BCKC Canada Day BBQ & Voyageur Canoe Trip did not disappoint 🙌

It wouldn't be a true Canadian celebration without a little drama first; torrential rain had our incredible set-up crew scrambling to get everything ready inside the boathouse 💪 But as members arrived, the skies cleared, the bay turned golden, and the party moved outside just in time. Worth every drop! ☀️

The energy inside the clubhouse was electric as the Voyageur canoe was prepped and launched, there's nothing quite like watching that big beauty head out on the water 🛶✨

It was especially wonderful to see so many new members out for the evening, soaking it all in and becoming part of the BCKC family. This is what the club is all about! 💙

Here's to Canada Day, good food, great paddling, and the best community on Kempenfelt Bay 🍔🎆🇨🇦

🛶 PADDLE NIGHTS NEED YOU! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Every Monday & Wednesday all summer long, BCKC comes alive with Paddle Nights on beautiful Kempenfelt Bay and it's one of the most beloved things we do as a club. 💙

But here's the thing: it takes 5 volunteers every single night to make it happen.

No volunteers = no Paddle Night. It's that simple.

The good news? If everyone signed up for just one or two nights, we'd be fully covered! 🙌

Celebrating Roger Parsons

Five well known paddlers are being inducted into the International Whitewater Hall of Fame – including our own Roger Parsons!

Pioneer – Roger Parsons (Canada) is known for having ‘built’ whitewater in Canada from the ground up as an instructor and coach, a race organizer, an organization founder, an international official, a trainer of officials, a recruiter, a mentor, a promoter, a fundraiser, a boat builder, and a designer.
Roger Parsons was instrumental in the creation of the Minden Whitewater Preserve (MWP) which would be a lifetime achievement for anyone, Roger’s legacy goes far beyond that. As a Scout leader for 40 years, he introduced the first generation of Canadian teenagers to whitewater paddling – many of those went on to be part of Canada’s first national teams to compete overseas (including Roger himself). Some of them continued on to key volunteer positions of leadership within the sport including (historically) Canoe Ontario; Ontario White Water Affiliation (which Roger founded) now Whitewater Ontario; the Canadian White-Water Affiliation (which Roger founded) now part of the Canoe Kayak Canada.
Roger was a valued member of the Barrie Canoe & Kayak Club for 30 years. After Roger retired, he and his wife Dorothy (also an International Coach Federation judge), moved to the Barrie area, building a house in nearby Midhurst. He became a fixture here at the Barrie Canoe and Kayak Club, participating in and leading many canoe and sea kayak trips.

Sunday, May 3rd, 11:30-4pm, at Minden Whitewater Preserve, event celebrating the contributions of Roger Parsons to whitewater paddling.
