I remembered today to pull out the first rag quilt I made so I could take a photo of it. I made this in 2013 when Taylor Swift was touring her RED album. I call this my Taylor Swift quilt. Purple (her favorite color), Red (the album name), hearts (she makes a heart shape with her hands), Blue (color of her eyes), Yellow (blond hair), flowers cuz I like flowers.

I just realized you can see my cat peeking out from under the coffee table! 😄 She is staring intently at something.

The first style of quilting I learned was sewing rag quilts. These are made with flannel so the seam edges fray intentionally when washed. I do not have a photo of the first rag quilt I made (but I will take one as it's upstairs in my room), however here's a bright bold colored one I made for Valerie J Hiebert as a baby shower gift. As I said before, quilting is the art of cutting up fabric and sewing it all together again. I had to cut all these into 1.5 inch strips first. I already had 1.5" inch squares of black, so the black strip was not included in this photo. There's about 110 strips all together!

My neighbour asked me to make a baby quilt and we decided on the pattern. The quilt consists of 2,652 finished 1-inch squares. First step was deciding on the colors, then I went shopping! Aren't these pretty? I tried to get a close-up of the sparkle in the white fabric and blue fabric.

Hello and welcome! Years ago I joined Ms. Gould's sewing classes in Bowmanville and fell in love with quilting. Since I struggle with reading, following along patterns to make the more traditional beautiful quilts is difficult. Instead I made many pillowcases, a couple of iPad cases, snapbags (and more) during her classes.

Then I was introduced to pixel quilts! The art of cutting up many fabrics into little squares and sewing them all back together again. I started out making quilts for myself and then family members. I would love to have you along as I show what I have made and what I am currently working on.
