Oil pastel has become one of my favorite materials lately.🎨✨️
It’s tricky to work with, but I love its rich color and texture. It behaves differently on every surface — paper, canvas, smooth or rough background — and that makes it unpredictable in the best way.
For my colorful portraits, oil pastel feels perfect. A few strokes can already look bright, juicy, and alive. I also love that I can blend it with my fingers — the pastel warms up, becomes softer, and the colors start melting into each other.🫶
Compared to acrylic, oil pastel feels more direct and intuitive to me. Less distance between my hand and the artwork.🤌😍
Even after fixative, the piece still feels airy and alive, so it needs to be handled carefully.
Maybe one day I’ll try oil paint, but for now I love the speed of oil pastel. I usually work fast — 6 to 8 hours — trying to catch the emotion, the color, the impulse.🤓
Messy, moody, addictive — oil pastel fits my current art mood perfectly.❤️
