OK friends, let’s take a closer look at retinol...

Retinol is one of our favourite staples in a nighttime skincare routine, and it’s one of the most researched and effective ingredients for:
* Increasing cell turnover
* Softening fine lines
* Improving texture and minimizing pores
* Brightening skin tone and reducing pigmentation

Starting slow is the best way to help your skin adapt to new ingredients. Here’s what we recommend for our patients:
* Use at night only
* Begin 1–2 nights per week
* Gradually increase as your skin adjusts
* Follow with a moisturizer
* Wear SPF 30+ every morning
* Consistency over intensity

OPTOMETRIST TIP: Apply retinol outside your orbital bone. In other words, stay outside your cheekbones and brows (and avoiding the eyelids and lash line) to help protect the delicate skin—and your oil-producing meibomian glands.

PM Routine for Healthy Skin

Earlier this week we introduced a simple skin routine for the morning. A nighttime routine is just as important because that’s when your skin focuses on repair and renewal. Swipe for a streamlined way to give your skin what it needs at the end of the day…

1. PREPARE: Cleanser
Remove sunscreen, makeup, and buildup from the day. Clean skin is skin that’s ready to reap the benefits of the upcoming steps.

2. TARGET: Eye Cream
Support the delicate skin around your eyes with a dedicated product. There’s a wide variety of options in this category - start with a product that has ingredients selected for your concerns.

3. TARGET SOME MORE: Retinol
One of the most effective ingredients for supporting skin renewal, improving texture, and promoting healthy aging. The big thing to remember here is to start with a low concentration a few days per week and build from there in terms of strength and frequency. Also, NEVER apply retinol closer to your eyes than your cheekbones. More on this later…
