To my bra sewists: The interesting thing about fitting in bra making is where the symptom presents itself is never what needs altering. Case in point; changing the rear strap attachment width (even height) affects how the cup shape looks in the front. 🧐🤔

My knickers from to match my cause you always need matching sets!! I honestly did not like the leg elastic that I originally put on the knickers, so I unpicked it, cut off the seam allowance and found some thin Fold Over Elastic to replace it. Much better.

This was such a special project and first project of its kind for me. My former co-worker came to me after her battle with breast cancer 2x that resulted in a double mastectomy. Her request was if I could make a wireless bra/bralette to hold her ‘foobies’ (aka: fake b**bies/prosthetics). Her request was for something simple, soft, supportive, but stretches. We choose to use the designed by I chose to use some beige tech-sheen material for its softness, smoothness and slight stretchiness and good recovery. The ‘foobies’ are quite heavy for their size. Soft latex free fold-over elastic on the edges and metal free hardware (due to an allergy). When she put this on, both of us just about cried with joy cause it fit her so well neither of us could tell that they were prosthetics seamlessly tucked into that bralette. She commented, ‘that she looks normal again’. 🥰.

New Pattern Alert!! I was part of the test team for .se newest pattern I was so pumped to try this pattern. Other patterns out there similar to this are all designed for a fuller bust/ larger cup size. I am neither. What Iove about this is the diagonal seam is above the apex giving the look of lifted and youthful. I did not need to make many changes to this pattern either (including the band!!). I am not of the ‘projected’ shape and that was the only alteration I had to make. I must say that this bra is designed for the projected shape! So if you have had troubles in the past looking for a pattern with a narrow frame and room for tissue projection .se has you covered. I also very much prefer vertical lines in my bra cups. It allows for a beautiful round shape and the vertical lines give the cup lift and structure. My final bra was made from duoplex and ‘stretch lace’ over top. I chose to use a 3x3 hook and eye (I usually use a 2x3), and the little extra width on the band is sooo comfortable. Bravo .se for a beautiful pattern to add to your collection.

I am a bit behind posting my makes. I have been busy sewing stuff up. This foam over lace, cup and band is from my master pattern. This was the design I was originally shown on my 3rd bra making course and has been a staple style that I keep returning to cause I really really like the way it looks and supports . I had previously made a 2 seam vertical cup where the seams came more from the lower outer cup and swooped inward and upward. This time I wanted to make the seams more vertical and lower the strap tab about 5/8”, which moves it a smidge lateral as well. But still keeping with the strap mechanics I added a ‘knotted’ triangle detail. This pattern has to be my favourite so far. Instead of sewing 2 vertical seams the full length of the lace, I decided to test my skills at sewing darts. That way the neckline remains ‘unbroken’ with its edge and the profile is smooth. Now to decide which lace to use on the next one.

I was part of the test group for this new pattern this past week. The original top piece had a dart on the inner cup which I loved. But upon choosing my final fabrics I wanted to use foam. So there is a ‘seam’. I decided to carry that seam to the lace. This pattern was such an easy sew. And fits true to size with great shaping and lift. The band did not need any adjustments for me! Which was a first in a long time. Most important when I had made my mock up and wore it, it did not move, crease, loose shape or my b**b wat the bottom of the band and try to escape out the top!! It was so comfy and moved with me during the day. This is such a nice alternative to a wired or compression style sports bra. This was also the first time I have sewed one of these patterns and the fit of this pattern has definitely peaked my interest to try others. I hope many of you decide to sew this pattern up! I cant wait to see what you create.

I have a from The photos that follow will explain my process along with using materials in my stash. I have a master bra pattern that I know fits me. I used this as a guide. I had taken my measurements and according to the pattern suggested a really small size but I traced it out and compared it to my master. It was really short. So I took my master frame and kind of matched it up with the pattern. I found one that the wireline lined up well with. I had decided to use a short wire vs the monowire (cause that is what I had on hand and it lined up with the patterns wireline. I also decided to use my master band. I know it fits and made the adjustments necessary to accommodate the shorter wire. I put in the suggested cups for that frame (this decision was based on my experience with my suggested wire and cup size is usually really close). I chose to make this in powernet instead of the stretch mesh cause I wanted more support. I had to make 2 cup alterations. Carve out the underarm (which I have to do on most patterns) and take a dart from the lower cup so the bottom of my b**b doesn’t droop down. I also ‘changed’ the DoGS on this pattern. This aligns with how I learned. When working with powernet or stretch mesh, when you stretch the material the holes should get longer and more narrow. This is considered the DoGS and they go around the body horizontally. I also lined my straps with narrow strips of duoplex to ensure they dont stretch too much. As much as I would have loved to put a pale pink bottom band on this bra, I didn’t have any. So I decided to cover the elastic with the stretch mesh I used on the outer layer of the bra. This bra is so comfortable to wear and the strappy straps give that extra umph.
