A glimpse
"Where does your worth and rest come from?"
"You woke up startled, realising you've missed the alarm, which also means you have no time to yourself this morning to pray or read the Word. Why did you miss the alarm? You are completely exhausted from yesterday, and today there is even more on your plate. As you head downstairs to make your coffee, opening the cupboard suddenly you remember that yesterday you used the last of the coffee. You think that's okay, I'll make myself a cup of tea, I guess. As the water boils you begin to put lunches together for the day. The hissing from the kettle stops you, as you begin to pour, hot water splashes out of the cup all over the counter. Thankful that you didn't get burnt, you simply just keep moving.
Ahhh, that first sip is perfection, exactly what you needed, just then one of the kid's stampedes downstairs yelling mommy, mommy! Back to reality you keep making the lunches and begin prepping breakfast in unison. You can hear the two other kids upstairs yelling about not being able to find socks, and you snicker a bit because you just told them last night to fold their clothes. The kids are zooming all around you, packing their lunches while you are thinking about your big to-do list for the day. Ping! Your phone goes off and as you pick it up one of the kid's asks you a question that just simply can't wait. Trying to read the message and answer your child at the same time, your mind is already in a haze and it's only 7:15 AM. "Hurry up, go brush your teeth and comb your hair!" you yell as you try to take another sip of your tea, secretly wishing it was the coffee you had been anticipating since opening your eyes this morning.
Phew everyones fed, bags are packed, teeth are brushed, shoes are on. As you usher them outside to go wait for the bus, you give them a big hug telling them "I love you". You breathe in deeply as you think about your next step for this busy day, just then your toddler pulls on your leg asking for a snack. The list is long, and you wonder how you are going to complete all of this by the end of the day. But you must, this is what you do, your worth is found in how much you accomplish.
Okay then, you decide I'll start with cleaning the bathrooms and floors, after you'll have to tackle some of the work you've been meaning to do. Oh no, what about my work out? You tell yourself that's fine, maybe you will have time for that tomorrow. Starting with the bathrooms and floors you just keep moving and before you know it lunch needs to be made, well at least for your toddler. You think about how much easier it would be if you didn't have to make lunch, you could just skip it and keep on with the list.
As the day wears on you just keep pushing yourself, you are mentally and physically exhausted and the kids aren't even home from school yet. The day ends, you flop your tired and worn out body into your bed, with little to energy for your devotion. Every muscle in your body slowly starts to relax, and your breathing slows down. You think to yourself at least I got my list done today, that is something to be proud of, maybe I can find time for myself tomorrow. But there is something greater inside of you knocking on your heart to come and experience true rest "
