There are pieces you reach for as soon as the temperatures start to drop. The workwear jacket is one of them.

Structured enough to wear as a jacket, relaxed enough for every day. Layer it over a t-shirt or a sweater, then under a coat when the weather gets colder.

Hello! 👋

We're starting a new series here at SWENN about something we don’t always think about when getting dressed: the fabrics and materials behind our clothes.

Where do they come from? Why do we choose them? And what happens before they become a SWENN garment?

I’m kicking things off with organic cotton — from Mexico to New York, and finally here to Prince Edward Island, where our designs are screen-printed locally.

There’s a whole story behind that cotton thread. 🌱

HOW LOCAL CAN WE REALLY MAKE IT?
I spent months exploring just how far I could go in making our products in Canada. Then I discovered a small artisanal mill on PEI, created by two sisters. They transform wool from their own flock, along with wool from other Island farms, into beautiful yarns using organic dyes.

We used their wool for our first two runs of chunky knit hats, made entirely in Canada.

With limited production capacity and strong demand for their yarn sold directly to customers, they eventually stopped wholesaling. Another reality of working with small local producers: sometimes, you simply have to adapt.

AS LOCAL AS POSSIBLE.
I eventually found a mill in the Beauce region of Quebec that transforms wool from New Zealand here in Quebec, before sending the yarn to my knitter in Quebec City, who makes our hats.

Not every part of a product can always originate here, but I try to keep as many steps as possible in Canada. That’s how I approach production at Swenn: as local as possible.
