Shop Update🛍

It’s officially been a year here in the Ottawa Valley since our lives were flipped upside down and the world came to halt🦠🌎

It hasn’t been an easy year for many of us and I want to thank all you guys again for the thousandth time for supporting The Chinook Effect through it all💕

That being said because of Covid-19 I’ve faced a lot of supply shortages and increased shipping rates for all of my yarns. As of Monday March 15th I will increasing the price of my Classic Canadian Toques😔

It hasn’t been an easy decision but it is unfortunately needed with the increase of supply costs/shipping as well as the upgrades I’ve introduced to the design (product tags and reusable/recycled packaging)

When I originally created the handmade toques I wanted them to be affordable for most individual/household incomes. That being said I will now be introducing several sales (and giveaways 😉)throughout the year so I can still continue to keep that promise✨

We are getting some very lion-like weather for the first of March here in the Ottawa Valley🦁

Though it may not feel like it spring is so very close and with that comes the slow whine down of needing cozy and warm crochet creations

For the first time though I will be continuing to make items throughout the summer in preparation for the 2021 fall and winter line. I have so many new plans in the works and I can’t wait to share them all with you😊

In the meantime stay warm, stay safe💕

I don’t know about my fellow makers but I am feeling a much needed sense of relief from the lessening of lockdown restrictions. Finally, after nearly two months of waiting, burgundy and wheat faux fur yarn is in stock in Canada🇨🇦 Needless to say I’ve already placed an order and should have everything fully restocked within the next two weeks🤞🏻

Happy Saturday✨

Like so many of my fellow fibre artists/makers I am feeling the impacts of COVID-19 when it comes to ordering/re-stocking supplies

This is especially felt with the Le Nord Earmuffs. The faux fur yarn I use for them is completely sold out in Canada😔 That being said there are still some colours still available on my Etsy shop. Thank you everyone for their continued support and understanding as we all try to navigate the extended delivery times and supply shortages

Being a maker isn’t always easy...

🔸It’s late nights and early mornings
🔸It’s spending unpaid hours researching new fashion trends, colours, raw materials, taking/editing product and colour swatch photos
🔸It’s second guessing yourself...every.damn.day
🔸It’s fighting that inner voice that wonders is it even worth it, that constantly causes you to question everything, to compare your business to others like you and how much more successful they appear to be

It’s in those dark moments though that the positives always seem to shine through✨

🔸It’s the feeling you get starting a new project
🔸It’s getting a new order notification, email or a DM
🔸It’s getting a like, post share or comment notification on social media
🔸It’s receiving a positive review or tagged picture/post from a happy customer

This⬆️ is the lifeblood of a maker/small business owner, this is our oxygen, this is what silences all our doubts and fears

It’s during times like these, when life appears so dark and uncertain, to focus on the positives no matter how small and to pay this positivity forward💕

Happy New Years Eve🎊

I wanted to make take the time today to introduce myself to the followers that have come onboard over the past 12 crazy months.

Greetings! My name is Megan and I’m the hands, heart and soul behind The Chinook Effect. As you may have already guessed I’m MUCH more comfortable behind the lens of camera instead of in front of it📸

I’m 28 years old. I currently live in Cobden Ontario, Canada, a small rural community located an hour west of Ottawa. I’m both a crazy plant lady🪴and a dog mom 🐶🐶 I started crocheting in my high school’s home economics fashion class. Over the years, it has grown into a creative outlet🎨

When not crocheting you can find me doing various outdoor activities🏇🏻🚣🏻‍♀️🏹🎣🏕working in my vegetable garden👩🏻‍🌾milking cows in the neighbour’s dairy barn🐄or in the bee yard working with my honey bees🐝🍯
