Weekend forecast?... 🌧More rain🌧 It's FINE!

It's perfect weather to spend some of the weekend upcycling socks whose other half has gone missing or socks that have... Seen better days.

If you've rummaged through our tables we know you've unearthed plenty of socks- imagine the landfills....
Although reduce, reuse, recycle should not only be enforced on the individual level, and needs to be dealt with structurally... For now, with a friend, your kiddo(s), partner, or just yourself- take that lonesome sock and turn it into something new! fun! revived!

It's also a great time to think and talk about our consumption habits and really consider the ease with which we throw things out, because of convienience.

💡SOME IDEAS💡
A mug cozy! A braided rag rug (they last forever), a potted plant hanger, leg and/or arm warmers, a stuffed animal/creature (bonus- you give it eyes from that button jar in your closet), or simple patches to attach to something! OR the classic sock puppet.

There are endless ideas out there. Throwing things out is easy. mending, repairing, and transforming takes a little longer, more care, and more imagination. 💛

JULY 20-24!

Spots are still available for our full summer day camp for kids ages 10 and up NEXT MONTH!

The Clothing Upcycle Day Camp is a day where kids can create their own upcycle article using items from our pay by the pound and our workshop. Participants may bring items from home if they wish. We go over design choices, environmental issues, fabric compositions, sustainable design, and the safe operation of sewing machines.

In this camp, students will:
🌟Learn to sew (shorts)
🌟Learn to sew (tote)
🌟Design and upcycle articles of clothing,
🌟Learn about the environmental impacts of textile production and waste
🌟Contribute to the recycling efforts in our facility

The co-op component:
At Blenderz we believe in corporate visibility, process accountability, and environmental citizenship. Blenderz is a volunteer-driven organization where the community comes together to help recycle and recirculate our clothing and textiles locally.
Day Camp participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the movement of textiles daily by learning about how we recycle and helping with age-appropriate tasks. Only a small amount of the day is dedicated to this activity but we find it allows for variation throughout the camp and allows kids to feel empowered and valued as change-makers and community contributors.

Do you want to sew some summer shorts? These are cool and casual, making them your go-to shorts for warm weather!
The Nantucket shorts have overlapping front panels and comfortable elastic waist. Sew up these shorts in a french terry sweatshirt knit for a flexible cotton feel or use a woven cotton for a more structured feel (we will go over these options in class).

Learn to sew a woven blouse with a peter pan collar and boxy silhouette. In this class, you’ll work with button closure , set in sleeves, collar and gathered sleeves. We’ll guide you through construction techniques and finishing details, and you’ll leave with a blouse that is so lovely and perfect for summer.

This is a two session class
All materials, machines, and supplies provided. If you would like to bring your own fabric or machine you are more than welcome to, anything for your comfort!
