9 years ago today, I completed my Fashion Design Diploma at MC College. 🧵✨
When I started, I didn’t know anything about pattern making, serging, drafting patterns or colour theory. I had no idea how to develop an entire collection or even what fabrics I should be choosing. 😂 I was coming from working as a HCA and stepping into a completely different world.
But I did it anyways. 😆
I wanted to do something I was genuinely interested in and passionate about, so I took the chance, enrolled in a one-year Fashion Design program and paid for the program myself.
I’m so grateful I took that chance. I got to learn from instructors and professionals in the fashion industry, and those skills eventually opened doors I never could have imagined. I’ve travelled to places I never thought I would get the opportunity to go and experienced things from starting fashion school nine years ago definitely couldn’t have predicted.
And nine years later, I’m still learning. I’m still sewing, still teaching myself new techniques, still making mistakes, figuring things out and growing.
My dad always encouraged us to take chances on ourselves and try new things. He would say, “You’ll never know unless you try. The worst thing someone can say is no.”
I’m grateful I listened. ❤️
