What a beautiful weekend of culture, community, family, and connection to the land. ❤️
A huge thank you to Janine Niizhode for inviting me to assist with the turtle-shell rattle and buffalo drum-crafting workshops with the community of Keeseekoowenin First Nation.
We gathered at the beautiful Lake Audy Campground in Manitoba, and what a perfect setting for these workshops. The outdoor shelter was such a wonderful space to come together, with the two woodstoves keeping us warm while we created, shared, laughed, and learned together.
We started with the turtle-shell rattle workshop. 🐢❤️ It was so wonderful watching everyone, especially the children and parents, work together, helping each other and creating something they could take home and treasure. Everyone did such an amazing job! The participants were so kind and welcoming, and the workshop flowed so smoothly.
The following day, we held the buffalo drum workshop with the same community. 🦬❤️ There was something especially meaningful about creating buffalo drums while being so close to the buffalo themselves. It was such a beautiful connection between the work we were doing and the land and animals surrounding us.
One of the highlights of the whole trip was picking sage medicine with the buffalo at the Lake Audy Bison Enclosure. 🌿🦬 What a beautiful and memorable experience! Being out on the land, gathering medicine, and seeing the buffalo nearby was something very special that I will carry with me.
It is always such a pleasure to have David Budd with us as our Elder. He is so caring and has such a huge sense of humour 😂❤️, and he always shares so many good teachings and stories. These are teachings and moments that we will carry with us and continue to pass on.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with children, families, adults, and communities, sharing culture, art, teachings, and time together. Every workshop is a chance to learn something new, meet wonderful people, and create meaningful connections.
It is such a treat to travel throughout Canada, visiting different communities, experiencing different parts of the land, meeting new people, and sharing this work. I feel very grateful for every opportunity to learn, create, teach, and connect. ❤️
Miigwetch to our facilitator, Janine Niizhode, Elder David Budd, the Keeseekoowenin community, and everyone who participated and helped make this weekend so special. ❤️
