AVAHS STORY
Hi, my name is Avah-Skye Miller. I am a competitive swimmer, on the road to the Olympics and I have just made my FIRST jr. Olympic trials!! I started this fundraiser to help me get there, and I am asking for help.
Here’s my story…for those that don’t know…
As a background, I have almost 9 years of competitive gymnastics experience. In 2024 after suffering 2 broken tail bones, a sever kidney infection that left me losing almost half my hair and I was fighting an unknown battle with celiac that fuelled multiple injuries. I was forced to make a decision…which now meant in Aug 2024 my gymnastics career was now over.
So what next…In awe and inspired by Summer McIntosh’s performance in the Paris Olympics, I turned to my love of water for healing - wondering could I do that?
Having never taken swimming lessons before, I was ‘googling’ the strokes on route to my tryouts. Yep, that’s because I didn’t even know what the swim strokes looked like! At my tryout, I found a club that saw something in me and instantly believed that swimming was the place for me! On Sept 9th 2024 at 4:30 in the morning, I started swimming! I now had a new coach and together we would set goals and achieve new results. In my first year I still faced a lot of challenges, injuries like; a significant concussion, a sprained MCL and a sliced open foot just to name a few.
Because of my determination, within 10 months of starting swimming, I would be privileged to be on a team of amazingly strong girls and together we would break a national record in a 4x50 medley relay - opening my eyes to believe I could achieve more it sparked an Olympic dream.
In Sept of 2025 I would find out I am celiac, which now made so much sense!! I had my why and all I could think now was, I just have to keep swimming! I just had to stay determined to heal!!! “Just keep swimming” became my moto!!
Within 18 months of starting, on March 6, 2026, I would hold my own provincial record - in the 50m fly. Breaking a record that’s as old as I am, 13 years old! Now the spark is a fire and a dream of the Olympics! To make my dream an even clearer reality, at the same time, I achieved my FIRST junior Olympic trial time - a race happening in July of 2026, this means if I continue to work hard, I can be selected to represent Canada one day!!!
I am just getting started!! Will you help?
