Friends know how to let you going, and when Hatch said “AIRE said you can weld this” I knew it was different.

After eight years of heavy commercial use, this mammoth floor failed and needed a temporary permanent repair to ride out the season.

This repair found me blending PVC of two different weights with heavy sun damage. It was a fun challenge that was easier than anticipated.

From my experience with Ryder at AIRE he is usually right, and I could do this.

The shop has been hopping with rafts, sups and drysuits.
Some of the problems have been fun to tackle and I’ve noticed my layups got better!

Everything is better with l**e.

I enjoy offering campsite repairs, and re-tracking a derailed zipper car is a repair that’s close to my chest.

Often the result of lack of l**e and too much force it can quickly result in a ruined day and possibly install installation of a new zipper.

Unfortunately, this problem has plagued myself as well and after speaking to countless victims, have come up with two steps to include in your dry suit use to help minimize or remove this issue.

Step one: use silicone l**e every other use and insert into zipper car

Step two: have paddling partner pull zipper over shoulder or through areas of stress. Do not try to pull zipper over shoulder by yourself as this is a crucial point of failure.

Another board is kept on the lake and out of the landfill.
Boards like this one warm my heart. got this board to me after it was given to him from a friend who gave up on it. After re-gluing 6 inches of seam and patching a few pin holes. It’s ready for the lake again and can hold air for more than a few hours.

Never a good spot for a pinhole leak.
Small problem but a bigger repair.

In order to fix this correctly, 2 inches of material is needed on all sides of the failure, unfortunately the Black wear strip makes this a challenge so I sanded down to blue material.
Once that was completed, it was an easy patch as proper prep work was followed.

Hypalon will always have a special place in the shop as it allows me to appreciate PVC and the ease of welding.

However, regardless of the fabric, getting the user back on water is always the goal, no matter the challenge.

This boat came to me with a pre-existing stitch job that was casually holding air in 10 years after purchase it finally is holding air.

I ran the fist remote gasket installation program.

I’ve never believed gasket installation should be kept in the shop as failures happen in the most inconvenient times and we need to deal with them; beat it on the side of the river during a competition. It’s never a convenient time.
