Simply Silk

Simply Silk Hi, I'm Chris Gillet, owner of Simply Silk in Creston BC, Canada. The scarf is then left to dry for 24 hours, then the colours are fixed by ironing.

I paint silk scarves using quality silk paints and you can see my scarves at Cresteramics in Creston and on their page The designs are made by spiralling and manipulating the damp silk, (similar to tie dye) then applying the colours (usually 3) appropriately. The scarf is washed again and then one final iron. The scarves are hand washable and ironable. I hope you will look at my page (sti

ll under construction) and study my scarves. I ship to anywhere that has a mail service basically, please contact me for shipping rates. If you enjoy what you see here, please tell your friends - and if you don't see the colours you like, never fear, I can custom make one for you.

As an introduction to the new Taylor Hall Shopping Experience, on 20 August, I thought I post a reminder of how the Silk Road came to be.

The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads, and urban dwellers from China and India to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time.

Extending 4,000 miles (6,437 kilometres), the Silk Road derives its name from the lucrative trade in Chinese silk carried out along its length, beginning during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) following the establishment by Alexander the Great of a system of Hellenistic kingdoms (323 BC - 63 BC) and trade networks extending from the Mediterranean to modern Afghanistan and Tajikistan on the borders of China. The Central Asian sections of the trade routes were expanded around 114 BC by the Han dynasty, largely through the missions and explorations of Chinese imperial envoy, Zhang Qian. The Chinese took great interest in the safety of their trade products and extended the Great Wall of China to ensure the protection of the trade route.
