Good Sunday Morning Gabriola!

I think this is a perfect capture of a Sunday on our wee island. John was good like that, documenting our shores and forests with an artistic edge.

Today, 12-4pm, at the Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre (476 South behind the Post Office), is the last day for the John Poirier: A Retrospective & Sale. 40% of loose print sales go to Gabriola Land & Trails Trust. You can take home a moment in time to enjoy for a long time for a price you won’t believe.

Celebrating a legend, with a wicked sense of humour, that lives on through Mj and Anne. And the white rose in their garden.

Opening night was wonderful. Familiar faces, fans, and many art connections!

A few shots of the gallery. Not 100% as the original hang, as when it sells a new one goes up. There is a rolling video of work not necessarily featured, but available. Thank you Dimitri for the loan of the USB!

A HUGE thank you to Dirk Huysman. He saved the gnome and was a fab assistant wrangling the hang. New thing asking for help!

Thursday before a major show...we actually needed MONTHS to prepare, but let's see what happens! Can the gnome get it all done in time??? Anne Poirier has been a champion preparing all the work, so many files, drives overflowing with information, so many prints to put into sleeves! Mj Patterson organizing food, family, all the things. Give them a high five, an emotional journey for both MJ and Anne.

John Poirier: A Retrospective & Sale opening night and John's Celebration of Life is tomorrow, Friday, August 14th at 5pm. Gallery hours Saturday 10-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm.

Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre 476 South Road, Gabriola Island.

The collection is vast, the subject matter incredible from the urban captures, to moments in time on Gabriola, different mediums, different sizes. Prices you will never see again.

John Poirier: A Retrospective & Sale is taking place this weekend Aug 14-16th at the Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre.

One note the family would like to make is the generosity of local artist, Dirk Huysman. Dirk had these dates reserved for his solo show, upon reflection he felt MJ and Anne needed the space to bring John's work to the world. Dirk is a really great guy and was a very close friend of John's.

While there will be many works with Gabriola as the subject: framed, prints on aluminum, plaque mounted, prints. There will also be amazing captures from the North, from Nanaimo, from other places that caught John's eye on Vancouver Island. A note, 40% of print sales will be donated to Gabriola Land & Trails Trust, as John was a great supporter and he spent years documenting our precious island.

As the depth of work is quite significant, only a portion will be hanging on the gallery walls. A video screen will have the full collection available for viewing with the work on site, nicely wrapped up and labelled - John was meticulous and Anne has carried on the family tradition of archivist.

The show opens with the celebration of life on Friday, August 14th at 5pm. Please join us. Gallery hours Saturday 10-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm. A once in a lifetime chance to own a piece of magic, as seen through the eyes of a visionary.

When the gnome remembers, customer photos of their creations or what they have purchased. This was the first time the gnome actually got out the camera!

Meet Nadia! Nadia studied costume design. She drafted the pattern for this funky coat and the other day stopped in for buttons, found the faux fur trim, creativity took over!

Today her mission was a ball point needle. gnome had a twin ball point needle for sale and found a single in the stash. You never know what you'll find for your projects or your wardrobe.

Way to go Nadia! Looking forward to things you create to sell at gnome!

Open Monday - Thursday, 10-4pm this week. Big art show this weekend so weekend hours are haphazard. Away from Aug 16-26 and then back in the shop.

News! And it is NOT controversial!

MJ & Anne have partnered with Gabriola Land & Trails Trust for a fundraiser! 40% of the proceeds from the sale of John Poirier's prints next weekend will go to an organization he loved. Not to mention, he documented so much of Gabriola at a moment in time we will never get back.
