This is what we are about. Heirloom quality pieces you'll treasure, sustainably designed to be as singular as their wearer.
I am just 1 Mom, with 2 hands, creating small batch styles from pattern to product. For every pair of shoes sold I make a donation to which helps facilitate the distribution of 3 pairs of shoes to Canadians in need. For one week of every month 15% of my earnings goes to a different charity via . During this outbreak I have paused production on footwear to create masks to help in any way I can.
When I began Brave New Soles almost 4 years ago it was with the intention of changing the game, of being a better business with transparent practices, who gives back to the community. I endeavor to one day be able to share my craft with the world, to show my sons that perseverance IS success and that dreaming is a worthy endeavor. I set out to be sustainable, for our planet in my practices, and for my family in work/life balance and income.
I am proud of how much I have grown, but I will need your help to go on. A lot of businesses will shutter during this outbreak or shortly thereafter. The repercussions will be felt for years to come. And it will be the small shops. The blood-sweat-and-tears shops, the burning-the-midnight-oil shops. It will be the dreamers. But you can help!
You can help by being conscious of where you put your hard earned money, especially over the coming months and years. Ask yourself this:
Does this business give back?
Does this brand create well made products?
Does this brand work to limit its environmental impact?
Does this brand use sustainable materials?
Is this business transparent in its practices and honest in its efforts?
We are all going to feel the pinch as we wake from this dream, so if you cannot buy, that is π―% okay, but consider supporting small businesses in other ways. Tell you friends. Share their posts in your stories. Leave a review on their FB, Yelp or Etsy pages. Like and comment on their posts, or tag a friend who might not know about them. Hell, just DM them to remind them to keep going!
