🌟 Community Spotlight: Melissa 🌟

Some people join a running group looking for trails.

Others stay because of the people.

Melissa started running again in 2023 and decided to take on the Don’t Get Lost in the Woods 10K, even though she hadn’t run in years. It was there she met Candace and Nadine, who introduced her to Trekkers… and she’s been part of our community ever since.

Since then she’s taken on:
🏃 Don’t Get Lost in the Woods
👑 Emperor Challenge
💪 Spartan Races
🚴 Try-a-Tri
🎉 Half Mullet

…and she’s already dreaming about tackling even bigger adventures next year.

When asked what she loves most about Trekkers, Melissa didn’t talk about races or finish times.

She talked about the trails.
The people.
The positive atmosphere.
The feeling that everyone is there for the same reason, to show up and move.

If you’ve ever had the chance to run with Melissa, you’ll know exactly what she means. Melissa is one of those people who quietly makes every group run a little more fun. She’s always smiling, always encouraging, and she’s simply a joy to have on the trails.

The 10% Rule… Myth or Magic?

You’ve probably heard it before:

📈 “Never increase your mileage by more than 10% each week.”

But here’s the truth…

The 10% rule isn’t actually a hard rule, it’s a guideline.

Some runners can safely increase more.
Some need to increase less.

The better questions to ask are:
✅ How did you recover from last week?
✅ Are you sleeping well?
✅ Are you carrying any little aches or pains?
✅ Is life stress already high?

Your body doesn’t know percentages…
It only knows stress.

Building fitness isn’t about following a perfect formula, it’s about listening to what your body is telling you.

Maybe you’re heading to the trails.

Runner Logic…

💰 Spending $250 on race registration?
“Worth every penny.”

🧦 Spending $25 on a good pair of socks?
“Whoa… that’s expensive.” 😂

Priorities.

(And then we wonder why our feet hurt.)

A great pair of socks can make the difference between finishing happy and counting blisters for the next week.

We’re not saying socks are magical…

…but they’re pretty close. 🧦😉

Trail Truth Thursday 🥾

You do not need to earn your run.

You don’t have to:
❌ Burn off yesterday’s dessert
❌ Make up for a missed workout
❌ Punish yourself for taking a rest day

You can run because:
✅ It clears your head
✅ You love being outside
✅ Your friends are waiting at the trailhead
✅ It makes you feel strong
✅ It’s fun

Some days you’ll feel fast.
Some days you’ll feel like a potato in running shoes.

Both days count.

Movement isn’t a reward for being “good.”
It’s something you get to do, not something you have to earn.

So if today’s run feels amazing, enjoy it.
If today’s run feels like you’re dragging a fridge uphill, count it as a win anyway.

Because showing up is still showing up.

🌟 Community Spotlight Wednesday 🌟

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Stephanie!

If you met Stephanie on the trails today, you’d probably assume she’s always been a runner. The funny thing is, as a kid she was trying to find ways to get out of track and field in gym class. 😄

About 18 years ago, Stephanie started running with her mom and sister as a way to stay active. What began as exercise quickly became a passion, and along the way she found something even more valuable—the running community and friendships that came with it.

Today, she runs not only for her physical and mental health, but also to be a role model for her students and for her two kids, Lily and Levi. She wants them to see that moms can still do hard, adventurous, and downright badass things.

🏃‍♀️ Stephanie’s running resume includes:
• Numerous Half Marathons
• Victoria Marathon
• Near Death Marathon
• Death Race Team Relay (multiple times)
• Grizzly Team Relay (multiple times)
• GPRC Cross Country Team

Her proudest accomplishment came in 2024 when she completed the Grizzly Ultra, finishing as the 2nd female overall and improving her previous time by more than an hour. For Stephanie, the achievement wasn’t about the podium—it was about becoming her own personal best.

And she’s not done yet…

🎯 Stephanie is currently training for a marathon with one big goal in mind: qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
