I was so excited that the care labels finally came in for a project that I started sewing right away.......totally forgetting the fabric is indigo dyed. Now I'm slowly turning blue. Oops!

When your favourite shirt just won't come clean anymore.....but you have skills. ✂🪡🧵

The problem with being a pattern maker is you never make clothes that fit yourself so when you find one you love the fit of, you wear it to death. I love the way this light flowy top fits me but the fabric just won't come clean anymore. It looks fine but smells a bit like a nursing home (and I have decades before that thank you!) The company that originally made it appears to no longer be in business so.......

I took it apart, traced out the pattern and made a new one. The pattern was fantastic! There are lots of subtle curves to hug the fitted areas so it doesn't look like a potato sack.

Now I did make the copy shirt out of the wrong fabric.....on purpose. The new fabric is quilting cotton that doesn't flow the same way as the original. I sort of intentionally sewed something more potato sack-y. I wanted a worst-case scenario sample. That way I could play around with different shapes/fits and make a bunch of new shirts. Because if you can make it look good in the wrong fabric, it should look spectacular in the right fabric.

In the next few weeks, there will be a time-lapse of the creation of a completely new shirt from this one. Maybe more than one if I'm ambitious. ☝

I was a bit too aggressive with the thread spool. 🫣 On the bright side I learned a thing. Apparently the small Gutterman thread spools are manufactured in two parts. 😄

Marie was my first client before I ever officially start my company. Everything Marie needed got rolled into my business plan. Proof of concept that there were people out there who wanted to create but just needed the technical help. She also was in my brain when I picked a name for my company but that's a story for another day 🤗.

A company (that shall remain nameless) sent me samples of biodegradable mailers in a standard non-biodegradable mailer. If you don't use it why should I?

Why do companies do this and I'm over here agonizing over types of paper for my business card!?!

Hobbies and day-job colliding. Trying to sew buttons on a sample and my hands were sweaty so I grabbed Gamer Goo. Worked!
