Happy Friday, friends! It’s another beautiful day in the valley, and we’ve got a full restock in store for you today!

In addition to all the goodies hitting the floor, I want to introduce you to the second new coworker the universe sent me… Vicky!

It was kismet timing for us both that we connected exactly when we did, and I’m so grateful. Originally drawn to the valley from the UK for mountain life, she’s since decided our special little corner of the world is where she wants to be… at least for now.

Vicky has already been such a wonderful addition to Bird’s Eye, and I can’t wait for you to meet her if you haven’t already. She’s kind, thoughtful, and has a calm, welcoming presence that fits so naturally here.

If you’re in the shop over the next little while, be sure to say hello to Vicky on Sundays, Mondays, or Thursdays. As a bonus, ask her about yoga, theatre, or travel and watch her eyes light up as she shares the things she loves. ✨

Over the last couple of months the universe has provided me with some incredible new coworkers I’m excited for you to meet, if you haven’t already 💛

First - thrilled to introduce my friend Hannah that started with us about two months ago. Hannah’s been shopping Birds Eye for many years so I was so thrilled when she said she’d love to work here. You can say hi to her on Wednesdays and sometimes if you peek through the window at night you’ll see her restocking and curating like the sweet fairy she is ✨

You all may know me as Tara, the one who hunts, gathers, and curates all the preloved goods, but I wanted to share another side of me with you. If you’ve been supporting Bird’s Eye for any of the 13 years l’ve been in business (THANK YOU!!) then you probably have heard me chatting about sobriety. On July 1st I celebrated 26 years of being clean and sober. In AA we celebrate all the “birthdays” and you receive a little chip. Last night I picked up my 26 year chip!

Though I share this openly in person often I’ve rarely publicly shared it on my business pages in any manner. So why today? Through sharing my story and that I live sober I’ve had the great pleasure of having some of the most beautiful moments with customers turned friends that have shared struggles either they’ve had or that friends or family of theirs is currently struggling with.

This store has been a safe space in darkest times. This store was created when I first moved to this valley, had no friends and knew no one except my beautiful partner and his two daughters. Making friends being sober isn’t always the easiest. I spent a lot of my early 20s living in Victoria and not making friends because I was sober so I spent all my free time thrifting. When I moved here and had no friends, I did what I knew how to do when I was lonely - I thrifted. I quit my career to live in this valley so I thought why not open a store and just keep thrifting. Somehow I gained this beautiful community of friends and I couldn’t be more grateful for every one of you.

Now, why I share all this: I am here for you like you’ve all been here for me. Not everyone struggles with alcohol or drugs and not everyone is affected by someone who is.
Over the past couple of months the number of conversations I’ve had in the store about alcohol has grown exponentially. This message is for even that one person that didn’t know who they could talk to - I’m here for you. If you’re feeling alone or are just curious about sobriety or AA/NA/Al-Anon - I’m here for you my friend.

Thank you all for being there for me. Thank you for customers that have become friends and friends that have become family 💛
