Trees don't cry out for help immediately—they suffer in silence 🌲

Unlike lawns, which turn crisp and brown within days, mature trees and shrubs delay their response to heat and drought. A cedar, pine, or ornamental shrub might look completely fine today, but if its energy reserves are drained this summer, it can suddenly decline next spring.

Even worse? Pests are opportunistic. Spider mites and wood-boring insects specifically target trees weakened by heat stress.

🩺 3 Quick Steps You Can Take Today:

1️⃣ Mulch: Apply a 2–4 inch layer of organic mulch around the base (keep it an inch away from the trunk!).
2️⃣ Hold the Shears: Avoid heavy pruning during extreme July/August heatwaves.
3️⃣ Feed the Soil: Tree roots grow well into the fall. Investing in soil health now builds natural resistance before winter sets in.

Letting your lawn go dormant during water restrictions is a totally valid survival strategy... but it comes with a hidden catch! 🍂

When soil dries out in the summer heat, the beneficial microorganisms that break down dead grass go to sleep. The result? A thick, spongy layer of thatch builds up under your turf.

Why thatch is a problem:

1️⃣ It acts like a dense sponge, blocking oxygen and water from reaching deep roots.
2️⃣ It restricts nutrients, increasing the risk of fertilizer burn later on.
3️⃣ It creates an ideal environment for turf diseases during fall recovery.
