With beautiful views to Osoyoos Lake and a surrounding orchard to the west, our clients wanted a right sized home for their retirement and have space for the kids and their families when they visit. Paired with a very well insulated and airtight building envelope, triple glazed windows, heat pump for heating and cooling, energy recovery ventilator, and exterior window shading for both privacy and preventing the classic Okanagan western setting sun summertime overheating, this home has all the hallmarks of a high performance home while still providing ample glazing as would be expected on a waterfront lot. All of this adds up to a home with an envelope first approach paired with efficient and reliable active mechanical systems.
With two large lift and slide patio doors that open up to blur the lines from the interior to the exterior, there are multiple spaces to enjoy both inside and out, main floor and upper floor. That feeling of seeing a view from one level, but then climbing a stair to see it from another level creates a larger perspective that I feel gives that sense of awe. Like, whoa...how epic is this and then you head upstairs only to see how much more...err....epic...er...it really is, thats what thoughtful design can do...it evokes a feeling and that little smile of awe.
I have to commend and thank the Builder, Longhorn Construction, in particular Dale and Tim and the many trades who worked on the home. Structurally and mechanically this was a challenging endeavor but we took full advantage of the 3D model to plan out every post, beam, and duct to ensure there were no conflicts before a shovel hit the ground. Thank you for your attention to every little detail as the craftsmanship was evident throughout.
Lastly, the most important thank you goes to our clients Lyle and Gail. It was such a pleasure and fun project to be a part of. With the house now complete it's just the beginning of this new chapter here in the Okanagan. Thank you!
