Recognize the look? 🇨🇦

A little nod to Gord Downie and his iconic Canadian tuxedo as Kingston celebrates 10 years since The Tragically Hip’s unforgettable final hometown performance.

And the hat? That makes this one extra special. It’s a one-of-a-kind creation by Karyn Ruiz of Lilliput Hats in Toronto — the milliner who created Gord’s now-iconic hats for The Hip’s final Man Machine Poem tour.

If you’re out and about downtown this weekend taking in the Forever Hip celebrations, stop in and say hi, check out our tribute to Gord — and be sure to see A Loud Shy Guy!, Sergio Jaua’s incredible Play Me Kingston installation just outside our doors.

The double denim is available.
The T-shirt, sadly, is not. 😉
And the hat? One of a kind.

Here’s to a very Hip weekend in Kingston. ❤️🇨🇦

Have you seen him?

Meet A Loud Shy Guy! — the newest addition outside Chris James.

This summer, we were delighted to take part in Play Me Kingston, Downtown Kingston’s public art initiative celebrating the city’s extraordinary connection to music. We worked with local artist Sergio Jaua to create our guitar, and his finished piece feels particularly meaningful.

Inspired by Gord Downie’s final 2016 tour with The Tragically Hip and his multimedia project Secret Path, Sergio has incorporated Gord’s portrait from one of the band’s final performance alongside collage elements inspired by Secret Path.

The piece speaks to music and Kingston, but also to something much larger. Secret Path tells the story of Chanie Wenjack and helped bring greater awareness to the history and continuing legacy of Canada’s residential school system. Sergio describes his work as exploring themes of memory, reconciliation and compassion.

We’re incredibly pleased to have A Loud Shy Guy! standing outside our doors.

If you’re downtown, stop by for a closer look — and then take a walk and discover the other guitars that are part of Play Me Kingston throughout the downtown. Downtown Kingston

We’re proud to once again support Kingston WritersFest—and especially honoured to sponsor this year’s Marquee Event.

Join an outstanding panel featuring Jess Gibson, Wayne Grady, and Chanel Sutherland as they explore the growing popularity of short fiction and why this literary form is resonating so strongly with readers today.

If you enjoy great conversation, great storytelling, and supporting our vibrant local arts events and community, this promises to be a wonderful evening.

We’re delighted to support the Festival and the incredible work they do to bring world-class authors and literary events to Kingston. For event details and tickets, visit Kingston WritersFest.

Our entire Festival team is extremely excited about this event: our first Marquee event of the Festival, on Thursday evening. Three incredible writers talking about Short Stories: Jess Gibson , Wayne Grady, and Chanel Sutherland . Short fiction is growing in popularity. Is it our changing attention spans that makes this the case? Is it an acceptance that our world is fractured, contingent, and we only get glimpses into other peoples' lives and stories... Whatever the reason, Canada is loving Short Stories lately and so are all of you, based on strong ticket sales already. Don't miss this discussion: head over to kingstonwritersfest.ca for details!
