If you've ever stood at the top of a drop in, you probably felt this post before you finished reading it. That's part of what makes these moments so interesting.

The people around you understand because many of them have been there as well. They know the strange mix of fear, pressure, excitement and wanting to do it.

There's so much happening in this moment and it's not just courage. Someone is learning to notice another person's fear and to give advice without forcing it. They learn to wait, watch and encourage. They also learn to celebrate someone else's progress.

To recognize a feeling in another person because they've experienced it themselves. Those small interactions are easy to mess when we only look at skateboarding through trips, skill or physical activity.

The small interactions matter so much. Use it development also happens between people. Sometimes it starts with a skateboard, an edge, and a few people who know exactly how that moment feels.

Happy Birthday irish_liamo ! Such a fun day skating with these awesome people🤙🏻🤙🏻

What if we stopped looking at skateboarding as something that only belongs inside a skatepark?

Skateboarding communities understand how belonging works, how it's built. People need somewhere to gather and grow. They need the familiar faces which then brings people back.

They also understand that community grows over time through multiple events and sessions. It's deep and slow growing through shared space, local connection, trust and consistency.

Municipalities don’t have to create that community. In many places, it already exists and it's looking to expand.

The opportunity is to recognize that, make room for it and keep building alongside it.... Communication with this community is so beneficial.

The Community Blueprint.

Five things municipalities can learn from the skate community.
What would you add?

Thank you.
