A coin laundry self serve option is also available for you with both front load triple load washers for the large stuff and single and double load machines for

the smaller items. We at Sujitra's Suds and Seams also provide sales in work clothing such as Nomex coveralls and regular work clothing.

Last month we celebrated 30 years of business with some of our loyal and loving customers, friends and family🎉

Thank you for all that came out and made it the special day it was, one we will never forget❤️

Thank you to those that could not make it but have been apart of this amazing journey of human and professional experience, learning, and lifelong connections.

It all started as a dream in the year 1996 and has now blossomed into a reality 30 years later.

I (Terry Smeader) at that time was working at Alcan for almost 20 years and wanted desperately to leave my employment there and create business of my own with my soon to be wife Sujitra.
I believe if we had thought about it for too long we may never had done it as if we had done the math as to income against expenses it just didn’t add up.

Perseverance was the winner though.
We tried every idea to survive in the beginning such as janitorial for our industrial customers, live plants and a small gift shop. Of course our main business was drycleaning, sewing repairs and coverall cleaning and repairs for industry that got us through. It was a struggle for the first 10 years always wondering if we would have enough money at the end of the month to pay the bills and part of the time we didn’t. Credit card companies loved us we had run out of loan money credits from the bank so they were the last resource.

Somehow we got through having the Eurocan shutdown every year and the odd house fire or water damage insurance job come along which enabled us to put larger chunks of money down on our debt.

Our success came in the fact that we were a good team my wife Sujitra and I as one thing we learned was that it’s not always so much a person’s knowledge but the desire to make it work and realizing that our team members had to be as one in achieving the goal. Sujitra and I never fought we just worked it out somehow.

What really helped get Sujitra’s Suds and Seams through all these years was our commitment to the community and the loyalty of our customers here in Kitimat. A lot of laughter and positive energy goes a long ways in the universe as what we gave we got back and have been blessed with the results.


What we learned at Sujitra’s Suds and Seams over 30 years is that keeping the dream alive, having a happy partnership and marriage is the key to success. It’s not always about the money, its more about the journey as that’s what life’s all about. The journey and having fun, enjoying life and sharing these experiences with the people of our home town.


Then of course there was the building of the LNG Canada plant. LNG Canada and JGC Fluor were very good to us by offering and providing a lot of work and investment in our business. All the way through Covid we were so very busy for 4 years, actually busier then we had ever been in all our years in business. We can’t say enough good things about LNG Canada as they provided us with a retirement pension and a lot of fun and experience in the process.

Our daughter Sherryanne is taking over the business, she is learning all the skills required to take the business venture wherever it may lead to over the next 30 years. LOL.
Sherryanne is very determined and excited to carry on the family business as she has all the combined knowledge and experience of both Sujitra and my self and has the benefit of learning from all our mistakes and achievements of the past 30 years.

She will be a success also as Sherryanne has new ideas and beliefs for this business adventure we have together.

Thank you Kitimat for sharing this adventure with us the last 30 years; it has been fun to say the least.

Sujitra’s Suds and Seams, a professional laundry facility serving the Kitimat community since 1996, is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team.

This part-time position as coverall and industrial laundry attendant entails inspecting workwear pockets for tools/debris, sorting, washing, drying, and folding.

Requirements: Ability to handle physical work and possess a keen, safety-conscious eye for detail to ensure no items are left in garments.

And just like that this normal flame-resistant navy work shirt becomes a high-visibilty garment!

The bright yellow and reflective striping provides 360 degree increased visibility in low-light conditions and high traffic areas.

This allows our customer meet workplace safety requirements and more importantly adds another layer of protection from workplace hazards.
