Tatsuya Nagamine, the visionary director who redefined the visual storytelling of One Piece during the Wano arc, has passed away at the age of 53. Renowned for his masterful direction, Nagamine brought the world of Wano to life — from the arc’s breathtaking introduction in Episode 892, to Luffy’s electrifying Gear 5 awakening in Episode 1071, and the emotional dream reveal in Episode 1088. His work elevated the series’ animation to cinematic heights, blending dynamic action with heartfelt emotion in a way few could replicate. Though he stepped away from One Piece following Wano’s conclusion, reports confirm that he sadly passed away earlier this summer. Beyond One Piece, Nagamine’s creative brilliance shone in films like Dragon Ball Super: Broly and One Piece Film: Z, each showcasing his signature energy, style, and passion for animation.
