YUP it's getting overwhelming 😞
PS if you shop or donate clothing/books to Fancy Lucky you are directly helping to raise much needed bunny money! ❤️🐰

🚨 RABBITS ARE BEING DUMPED AND ABANDONED AT AN ALARMING RATE 🚨

We’re going to be really honest for a minute.

Things are getting overwhelming.

In the past two weeks alone, we’ve taken in 8 rabbits that were dumped outside to fend for themselves. We have two more that still need to be caught and brought to safety. It feels like every single day our phone rings with another rabbit in trouble. Another rabbit spotted living under a deck. Another rabbit abandoned in a park. Another rabbit struggling to survive after being left behind by the people who were supposed to care for them.

And we’re tired.

Not because we don’t want to help. Not because we don’t care. But because we’re watching the problem get bigger and bigger while our resources continue to be stretched thinner and thinner.

There are only a handful of rabbit rescues in Nova Scotia. When people dump rabbits, fail to spay and neuter, or decide they no longer want their pets, the fallout lands on the same few organizations over and over again. We do everything we can, but there are only so many spaces, only so many foster homes, and only so many dollars available to cover the growing need.

We’re running out of space. Vet bills keep climbing. Hay isn’t getting cheaper. Supplies aren’t getting cheaper. Nothing is getting cheaper.

The reality is that every time the phone rings, a small part of us wonders if this is going to be the rabbit we can’t help.

That’s a horrible feeling.

Because these aren’t numbers to us. They’re living animals sitting in ditches, under decks, in parks, on roadsides, starving, injured, terrified, and completely dependent on someone caring enough to step in. They’re rabbits who don’t understand why they’ve been abandoned. Rabbits trying to survive rain, heat, predators, traffic, and hunger because somebody made the decision to leave them behind.

We don’t want to say no. We never want to say no. But lately it feels like we’re constantly doing the math, trying to figure out how much longer we can keep stretching resources before something gives.

The hardest part is knowing the calls aren’t going to stop tomorrow. Or next week. Or next month. Every rabbit we help seems to be followed by another one waiting behind them. Some days it feels like we’re trying to empty the ocean with a bucket.

The need for rabbit rescue is growing faster than we can keep up with. It’s heartbreaking, exhausting, and honestly, sometimes it feels impossible. We keep showing up because the rabbits don’t have anyone else, but the weight of it all is getting heavier.

If you’ve ever thought about donating to the buns, even just a dollar or two, now would mean more than you know.

We’re not giving up. We’re going to keep showing up for these rabbits, just as we always have. But right now, we could really use a little help carrying the weight. ❤️‍🩹
