I started sewing in a junior high home economics class and was amazed at how quickly I loved it! A little bit about me:
- I have been sewing since the Fall of 2000
- I received a diploma from Lethbridge College's Fashion Design and Marketing Program (2008)
- in 2008 I also stated working in theatre and quickly fell in love with that world as well
- I worked at Lethbridge College as an instructor a

nd lab assistant in the Fashion Program for 3 years before going back to school
- I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge in Theatre Design (2016) and continue to work in theatre whenever I can

I started out by doing alterations for family and friends and that quickly snowballed into work for friends of friends and so on. I have been altering dresses for grad and weddings since 2009 and still love it! I love when a bride comes to me and once their dress fits them like a glove their eyes light up and they can't help but smile. That's why I do this. I love helping people feel their best and it's amazing what a good fitting garment can do! Because of my extensive sewing background, I not only work on dresses but I can also alter suits so that the groom feels his best too! (That's important for him too!)

Two brides means double the fun during alteration appointments!
Nicala and Jessica bought their dresses together and wanted to go through the entire alteration process as a team as well.
These two ladies are the real deal. The love, support, and happiness I saw between them during their appointments is something I assume all of my couples have, I just never get to see it first hand!
And for the icing on the cake, they took their AZAZIE wedding dresses to Iceland for their honeymoon and a stunning photo shoot.

Please join us in celebrating Kirby's accomplishments as we share her story

Born and raised in the Lethbridge area, Kirby Bartz is deeply rooted in her community and dedicated to its ongoing growth and evolution. After completing a Fashion Design and Marketing diploma at Lethbridge College in 2008, she began altering wedding and bridesmaid dresses for friends as they started getting married—an expression of both her skill and her love for those closest to her.

Kirby later returned to school, completing a BFA in Dramatic Arts (Technical/Design) from the University of Lethbridge in 2016. During her studies, she launched a home-based alteration business to supplement her theatre work. As her reputation grew, so did her vision. Combining her technical expertise with her passion for helping every bride feel beautiful on their big day, Kirby opened the first storefront location of The Alteration Shoppe in August 2020. The business quickly gained recognition for bringing each bride’s unique vision to life—and for rescuing, restoring, and repairing dresses in moments of crisis.

The Alteration Shoppe continued to flourish and quickly outgrew its first location. In April 2024, it moved into a larger location, where Kirby now leads a talented team of five. The Alteration Shoppe also holds alteration service contracts with several local police and fire departments, CBSA, PSCC, and others. Kirby is proud to serve the Lethbridge community in so many ways.

At The Alteration Shoppe, Kirby and her staff pride themselves on providing high quality, personalized services for every customer that walks through the doors.
