A little catch up on wedding alterations!

Burgundy party ~ the usual bodice, strap and hem alterations, plus a fun necktie challenge. A men’s length tie altered to become a boys necktie and an infant bow tie.

Taupe party ~ bodice, straps, hems, plus another necktie challenge! Remove photos from old ties and hand sew onto new ones.

A beautiful ivory ballgown for a cottage wedding 🤍🌲 ☀️

~ detachable drop sleeves created from complimentary fabric
~bodice alterations through zipper (and folded bandeau neckline altered to fit)
~ hemmed, with length left at back for a tiny puddle train.

The perfect gown for a fall wedding!

Steadfast supporters, a calming presence and the happy couple’s biggest cheerleaders ~ moms at weddings are pretty darn special!

These gowns were altered for the mothers of brides and of grooms with hems, bodice alterations, shoulders lifted and even tiny tweaks.

September 5 Bride 🩷

From playing in my yard after school as a little girl, to beautiful bride - this alteration was special.

Alterations included hemming all skirt layers, with lace trim removed then reattached, and a 3 point over bustle.

Congratulations to the sweetest bride and her new husband!

An Important Update for 2027

2027 is going to be a special year for my husband and I. Our only daughter is getting married!!

With much thought and consideration, I have made the decision that I will not be accepting wedding gown alterations in 2027.

Taking a break from wedding gowns will allow me to be present and enjoy every moment as Mother of the Bride. We are so excited!

Thank you so much for your understanding and support. It is a privilege to work with wonderful brides, and the most important one to me is on the horizon. ❤️

August 28 Bride 💕

This was an extra special bridal alteration and wedding gown enhancement!

The alterations included hemming and shortening the straps of this satin gown.

But in addition, the bride’s wish was to incorporate bits of her grandmother’s vintage wedding gown into her own gown in some way.

The result was a lace trimmed hem and scalloped lace detail around the neckline. And how perfect that both gowns were antique white in colour!

The Challenges:

- restructuring the new wedding gown neckline to cover undergarment straps

- fitting a curved and scalloped lace neckline to a square clean edged neckline 🤔

Solution:

- use the lining from Grandmother’s gown to build up the inside corners of the new gown’s neckline. This filled in the area where straps would show, and also rounded out the neckline.

- Trim the antique scalloped neckline from the old gown, turn upside down to put in place, add pleats, and hand sew to wedding gown.

The result was subtle but meaningful, and the most perfect “something old” for a bride to carry with her on her wedding day.

This project…

Something like this has been on my “work wish list” for quite some time.

I hesitated. I planned. I researched. I moved pattern pieces around and around before cutting. And I even lost some sleep. (In truth, that doesn’t take much!!)

In the end, it was one of the most rewarding sewing jobs I did this summer.

This is a bridal dressing robe, worn by the bride while getting ready on her wedding day. It’s extra special because it’s made from her mother’s wedding gown.

A beautiful gift from mother to daughter 🥰
