Many people tell me they find organizing and styling a space intimidating. When I ask why, most of the time I am met with three answers.

1. Everything I like looks so expensive and I am on a limited budget.
2. I have no idea where to start.
3. I started buying items for storage, and I am not sure where they would be best utilized.

This doesnt have to be expensive, overwhelming or scary. Pick a small space that you use a lot and want to be functional. That is where you start. That is where you focus your energy and whatever you have that you love and want to showcase.

In my kitchen, I bake. I also cook, but I love to bake (just ask my skinny wardrobe - if you can find it in the back of my closet). I wanted to make the most use of a spice rack I had that was largely collecting dust. I typically use premixed spices, and the ones I buy in bulk are kept in magnetic jars outside my cupboards. So, time for a good wash and repurpose!! I use most of the jars for things like cream of tartar and various sprinkles. There are a few spices I had excess of that occupy the last jars in the rack. They are organized, clean, easy to find and use. It's a perfect solution for items typically lost at the back of a cupboard in plastic bulk bags.

There are so many different uses for every day items found in your home or office. Getting organized doesn't have to mean stress and expense!

There has been a lot of talk lately about the effects of clutter and disorganization on your life. How both can negatively impact your productivity, mood and even physical health.

The concept and research make a lot of sense. Losing time looking for documents or contact information. Worrying about how coworkers or friends perceive your office and home. Constantly thinking about the added work of tidying up, when the to do list on your desk is already a mile long.

On the other hand.... I know people who cannot work on a tidy desk. Swear that organized confusion actually saves their sanity.

What are your thoughts? Do you need an organized space to work and live, or do you thrive in disorganization??
