Our emblem is a monogram that combines the two Arabic initials of Min Qalbi. The م (meem) & the ق (qaaf). It is inspired by the Square Kufic script (kufi Mourabba3) sometimes known as Bannâ’i or masonry script. It uses the basic structural forms of the letters. It allows us to be playful. Min Qalbi stands for love and ardor.

There have been Arabs in Spain since the early 8th century when the Umayyad conquest of Hispania created the state of Al-Andalus. In modern times, there are expatriates from various Arab countries, particularly Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, the Palestinian Territories, and Iraq, and small groups from Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, and Sudan. As a result of the Arab Spring (Libyan Civil War and Syrian Civil War), many have the status of refugees or illegal immigrants trying to immigrate, especially to France, Germany, and Sweden. The Arab population in Spain is estimated to be between 702,000 (lower estimate) and 1,600,000 - 1,800,000⠀

This is Beirut. The city that I probably hold closest to my heart. I lived in this particular neighborhood for years and made many memories there. That is Tony's barbershop on the left, a melting pot of rumors, and chitter-chatter. Now we leave Beirut behind as it tries to heal and we call Montreal our new home, I am grateful for this opportunity and thank this city for welcoming me. ⠀

Dubai and Abu Dhabi have welcomed a large number of Arabic-speaking ex-pats over the years. They originate from Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Jordan, Iraq, and Morocco, to name a few. They built new lives there, they raised families in a safe environment. These cities deserve love and gratitude.

▪️ The Arabic language is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used daily by more than 400 million people. World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18 December since 2012. The date coincides with the day in 1973 that the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Arabic as the sixth official language of the Organization.⠀

▪️ In the diversity of its forms, classic or dialectal, from oral expression to poetic calligraphy, the Arabic language has given rise to a fascinating aesthetic, in fields as varied as architecture, poetry, philosophy, and song. It gives access to an incredible variety of identities and beliefs and its history reveals the richness of its links with other languages.⠀

▪️ Arabic has played a catalytic role in knowledge, promoting the dissemination of Greek and Roman sciences and philosophies to Renaissance Europe. It has enabled a dialogue of cultures along the silk roads, from the coast of India to the Horn of Africa.⠀

▪️ This year’s World Arabic Language Day theme “Arabic Language, a bridge between civilizations” is a call to reaffirm the important role of the Arabic language in connecting people through culture, science, literature, and many more domains.⠀

▪️ The theme highlights the historic role of Arabic in creating and transmitting knowledge, as well as in enhancing dialogue and building peace. For centuries Arabic was the common ground, the connector, that reflected the richness of human existence and provided access to numerous resources⠀

▪️ In increasingly globalized, digitalized, and multilingual societies, the 2021 theme is of urgent relevance. It recognizes the changing world and the imperative to reinforce dialogue between nations and peoples.

Arabic-speaking immigration to Australia occurred mainly in the post-WWII period, with the exception of the Lebanese and Egyptian communities which began to arrive before WWII. ⠀

The Lebanese comprise the largest group, with the longest history of settlement in Australia. Most Egyptian immigrants came to Australia in the post‑WWII period, in two waves, from 1947 to 1971 and the late 1980s. Other Arabic-speaking groups include mainly those from Syria, Iraq, the Gulf States, Sudan, and Palestine.⠀

Look at the flow and beauty. This is LOS ANGELES in Arabic calligraphy. The State of California has the largest number of Arab Americans in any state, with the Los Angeles area constituting the largest cluster in the state. ⠀

Arab Americans in California represent many different nationalities including Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian, Iraqi, Jordanian, Palestinian, Moroccan, as well as Arabs from Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The largest immigration of Arabs to California came from Lebanon, Egypt, and Iraq.
