Thank you so much for all the love for our Upcycled Collection! We still have a few pieces left. Each piece is handmade in Montreal from vintage linens which means there are only a couple of each piece so if you see something you like make sure to grab it before it’s gone!

We are having an Archive sale! Everything in the sale is $20 or less!

Sales are fun for customers but for our small business this sale is a lesson in overproduction. 2022 was our best sales year in our 14 year history. We felt like the business had finally found its feet and was picking up momentum. Our Studio Citizen line was selling really well so when planning 2023 we decided to increase production. However, the post-covid bubble of 2022 popped and sales really slowed down for us in 2023. We had some really difficult decisions to make that year which lead us to downsizing our shops and team in early 2024.

Our mandate has always been about sustainability, we have always used dead stock fabric so as not to contribute to fabric production. It was really humbling to experience what going against our values resulted in and has made us more steadfast to stick to those principles.

This is the last time we will be doing a sale like this because we will only make small productions we know we can sell out. We appreciate the support of all our customers and hope you can make it to the sale!

Finally had a chance to add some Fall pieces online.
It’s been a real struggle to keep up with our online presence since downsizing at the beginning of the year. Social media and ecomm has never come naturally for us. We have lots of Fall pieces in store that we’re really proud of and would love to share with you but the thought of having to photograph everything is super overwhelming.
All that being said, we hope to share some more pieces with you soon!

Today we’re launching a mini Pre-Fall collection. All these pieces are now available online and in store.

As always, our collections are made from locally sourced deadstock fabric and are produced in our Mile Ex studio.

After downsizing this year, the Citizen Vintage / Studio Citizen team is now only 4 women. We do everything in the business; design the collections, source the fabric, create the patterns, sew the clothing, source the vintage clothing, sell the clothing in the store, run the online shop, run the instagram, manage the inventory, do the book-keeping… the list goes on. It’s a big job but we are passionate about the little business we have created. We love the reaction we get when new customers discover the shop and when our local regulars come in to see what’s new!

Many of you have asked for a bigger size range in our Carpenter Pants. Over the last couple of years we have been testing different patterns but it’s not easy to grade a pattern because all bodies are different. The biggest feedback we have received from our mid-size customers is that comfort is important. After severals fails we think we have now created a winner with these Extended Carpenter pants that offer more hip and belly space. They have an elastic back-waistband that extends for extra comfort when moving throughout your day.
