THE OPERA BELTS

By popular demand I finally made a belts.

Minimalist and elegant, OPERA is a 15mm belt with a distinctive T-bar buckle and metal loop. This belt can easily be worn over formal pants, casual jeans or a dress.

We don’t offer set sizes because we will make each belt to your specific measurement. Our standard design is 5 adjustment holes, 1 inch apart, but we can make 7 or 9 holes if you prefer.

*So many people have asked me to make belts over the years and I always said no because of the size inventory issue. I decided to cut them to order and make them custom, so it’s not a problem after all if you sell direct to customers online.

SPANISH VACATION

This summer I went a week in Spain and visited this wonderful work of architecture by Antoni Gaudi.

The rooftop is like a sculpture garden. It is captivating and enigmatic because it does not seem like there were any fences originally making this quite dangerous back in the days.

BRIGHT SUMMER

To end this adventure in a fabulous way, I decided to restock all bag styles in all colors so that you have access to the full bag collection one last time. Note that my quantities are very limited and I cannot guarantee that all colors will stay available all summer.

STATUS OF CHANGE: SHIFT INTERRUPTED

Partoem is cancelling its planned shift from genuine vegetable tanned leather to a bio based leather alternative and will unfortunately come to a close in the near future.

A year ago, I did a retrospective of my journey since I launched my brand. I announced that change was needed and coming. This change was to be a shift from genuine leather to a certified vegan bio-sourced leather alternative.

A year has passed and I still have not birthed a new collection. My disappointment is real but what I have learned is that creativity should not be forced. I felt resistance in the process which took the form of concrete obstacles such as difficulty working with my new material and new suppliers but there were also psychological obstacles such as a worry relating to the geopolitical climate, the sales decline, the imminent recession, my smaller tolerance for financial risk and honestly just the fear that this collection was not going to be profitable.

As honorable as it is, slow fashion involving local manufacturing is challenging, marginal and an act of rebellion against a predominant capitalist culture. Going against the grain, especially if you have difficulty making a decent living, can wear you out. I tip my hat to all my fellow friends and acquaintances who persist against all odds. After 8 gratifying years of resilience and work that aligns with my values, I am deciding to let go of Partoem.

I will not renew my studio lease in November, making this a 5 1/2 months countdown until my official business closure. If you want a Partoem bag, wallet or dog accessory now might be the only time to do so. If there is enough interest, I might take preorders on soldout bags such as my favorite Atrium or Arena tote bag. If you are an artisan, there might be a beautiful shared studio, a few precious tools/machines and leather available. If you are an investor and you wish to make my designs live on, I am open to discussion feel free to contact me in private.

Thank you ELLE QUÉBEC magazine for recognizing Partoem's effort in making responsible choices for the environement.

Most significant choices include:

- Manufacturing locally to support fair/ethical labor and also to reduce the transport carbon footprint
- A focus on quality and durability
- Using certified vegetable tanned leather which is significantly less damaging for the environment then chrome tanned leather. (removing the heavy metals released in the environment)

COLOR TWINS

In addition of being twins in color, both coffee and our leather share an incredibly pleasing smell.

The natural tree bark odor present the genuine vegetable tanned leather is really distinctive and is significantly different from the most common chrome tanned leather on the market. Oh and by the way, if you are easily seduced by olfactive qualities wait to smell our upcoming bio sourced leather alternative.
