There’s something so special about getting to revisit a home — and even more special about reconnecting with the people who made the project so meaningful — years later. 🤍

I started working with these clients five years ago, and this week I had the chance to spend the day with them again. They are truly a ray of sunshine, and what began as a design project has grown into a genuine friendship. That kind of relationship is one of the greatest gifts of this work.

We’ve stayed connected over the years, and being welcomed back into their home — and into their lives — felt incredibly special. Their home still looks amazing. Timeless, beautiful and still so them.

Now we get to add a few more finishing touches, because one thing I’ve learned over the years is that design is never really done. Our homes evolve as we do. Pieces are added, rooms are refreshed, and new layers make a space feel even more personal.

DESIGN TIP | Select Everything Before You Purchase Anything ✨

Whether you’re building, renovating or redecorating, one of my biggest pieces of advice is simple: select everything before you purchase anything.

I love to have all of the samples together—flooring, countertops, cabinetry, paint, fabrics, tile, hardware and finishes—and look at them together, in your own space and in your own lighting before making those final decisions.

A finish can look beautiful on its own, but once it’s beside another selection, the undertones can completely change. That warm white may suddenly look yellow. That beautiful flooring may pull pink next to your cabinetry. And that paint colour you loved in the store may look completely different in your home.

Design is about looking at the whole picture, not making one decision at a time.

Taking the time to create a complete plan before purchasing can save you from costly mistakes, help your home flow from one space to the next, and give you confidence that everything will work beautifully together.

DESIGN TIP | Selecting the Perfect Paint Colour 🎨

Choosing a paint colour can feel simple… until you get it on the wall. That beautiful colour you loved in your friend’s home—or saved on Pinterest—can look completely different in your own space.

Why? Lighting changes everything. Natural light, artificial light, the direction your room faces, and even the time of day can change how a colour reads. And don’t forget to look at every wall—the same paint colour can appear surprisingly different from one wall to the next.

One of my favourite tricks is to paint a large sample on a piece of bristol board, leaving a white border around the edge. The white border helps prevent your existing wall colour from influencing how you see the new colour. Then move your sample around the room, holding it against different walls and checking it throughout the day.

And remember, paint never exists on its own. Your flooring, furniture, countertops, cabinetry and other finishes all affect how a colour will look and feel in your home.

So just because a colour looks amazing in someone else’s space doesn’t mean it will look the same in yours—and that’s okay. The perfect paint colour is the one that works with your light, your finishes and your home.
