Question: Is heel movement/slippage normal in shoes? πŸ‘Ÿ πŸ‘

Answer: Yes, some heel movement is normal in a shoe that fits properly. Particularly when you first try them on and the shoe is more stiff.

The number 1 reason that people buy shoes too small is that they think the heel shouldn't move at all. Of course, you do not want to have your foot sliding out of the shoe, however some small movement is normal. Too much heel slippage can cause issues with the Achilles tendon and can cause abrasion of the skin so make sure the movement is minor. Always try on a half size difference to compare fit as you never know really until you have something to compare.

If you're not sure what size you are, you can book a professional shoe fitting appointment with Sheldon.

QUESTION: How long do custom orthotics last?πŸ‘£

ANSWER: The life span of a custom orthotic will depend on the materials used to fabricate them, your weight and how much you are on your feet. A plastic shell orthotic is harder and more corrective and will usually last for at least 3 years and can be used that full time unless your feet change. An orthotic made from softer EVA and foam materials, although provide more shock absorption, are typically not as corrective and will usually last 1 year to 2 years maximum. Your orthotic is made specifically for you and the materials used will depend on a multitude of factors arising from your consultation with our foot specialist. These are just general guidelines as some people may wear them out faster if they are on their feet all day.
