The difference between enabling someone in addiction or helping someone in addiction from my own experience
Helping someone is being there for them when they’re actually trying to make things better for themselves
It’s listening, supporting them, letting them know where to get help, and reminding them that they’re not alone and you’re there for them
Enabling is when you keep fixing their problems that their addiction is causing
You make excuses for them, cover for them, give them money, clean up their messes, or keep protecting them from the consequences of their choices because you love them and you don’t want to see them hurt
know how hard that is. When it’s your child, partner, sibling or close loved one
you want to step in and save them
But trying to protect someone from every consequence can keep them stuck in the same cycle.
And setting a boundary doesn’t mean you don’t love them
Saying no I can’t keep doing this for you doesn’t mean you’ve stopped caring for them
If you love them stepping back and letting them face what you’ve been carrying for them is the best way to help them trust me when I was in addiction and this happened it made me open my eyes
I hope this helps someone today
I give strength to you all
I love you
