Weird things only your friendly neighborhood seamstress notices lol.....two different pieces of denim were used to make this pair of kid's pants, not like, different on purpose in a stylish way......more like, who cares, close enough π And it was only one leg....so yeah.
I can't make this stuff up......factories do not care how they make your clothing. Whether it's a zipper or hem from Momomelons that is GLUED instead of sewn, or your pants are two different fabrics, there is no standard or quality anymore. It used to matter when you had to make your own, or buy your fabric, bring it to an actual tailor or dressmaker, and have a piece created with care and attention. You took care of your clothing and repaired it because it wasn't cheap to replace. We have gone fully the opposite direction. You don't notice. Fashion is cheap, and if we stopped manufacturing clothing today, we could still clothe the entire earth's population for the next six generations.
I don't have the answers. I notice the things that stick out to me only because I'm working on one item at a time. After 13 years in this business, my only advice is to avoid shopping online and buying things that don't fit or look the way you expected. You can give me all the excuses under the sun, I have heard them all, and I promise you there is clothing available at every budget. You might walk away from an item that you don't really like in person, but with online shopping, you don't know what you're getting until it arrives. Look at the fabric, is it all the same color? Look at the seams, are they glued or sewn? I would definitely drop the brand loyalty, you're advertising for free, and the quality control isn't what it used to be. Choose individual pieces that feel nice to the touch, and try them on anytime you have the opportunity. Things like hemming, taking in a waistband or bodice, lifting shoulders and shortening sleeves are relatively easy alterations to make. It will help you avoid reconstruction projects, which can be costly or impossible, and receiving something that is too small or too short, which I can't always fix!
