Our community is experiencing a very heavy time with several tragic losses. Our hearts are with everyone who is grieving, hurting, or trying to support someone they love right now. I knew Jude and Lise for all the years I've lived in 100 Mile and had been working neighbours for the past 10 years. I knew his parents also. Jude and Lise will definitely be missed. One thing I observed with them is that they had well behaved dogs. This news has come as a great shock to so many.....may they rest in peace.

46 years ago, I walked into a small optical shop in Calgary to apply for a job.....and I was hooked. Shortly after that, I moved back to Kamloops and began working for Anderson Optical in Thompson Park Mall. Over the years I worked in a couple of other opticals and 35 years ago I took a part time position with Dr Specs Optical . After about 11 months , I was offered the position of Manager.....and the rest is history. I was with the Kamloops Dr Specs for about 5½ years and then was offered the store in 100 Mile House. I had never even heard of the place. It wasn't until I accepted the position that friends told me that the winters here were terrible...temps as cold as -50° C. What had i just agreed to bring my family to? But, we packed up and headed north.
At that time, the store was located in the same mall as the 100 Mile Laundromat. It wasn't until 2016 that the store moved to its current location.
I have made some wonderful relationships with my customers over the years. Ive seen many grow up who have brought their children to see me. Ive shared in your grief and your triumphs and we've shared so many stories. So many of you have supported me when I lost my Mother and then my Husband....the hugs and well wishes touched my heart...it has meant so much to me.
Now it is time for me to hang up my screwdriver and bid you all a fond farewell. As you know, I had a bad fall back in July of last year and well, im just not recovering as well or as quickly as I would like. It breaks my heart to know that I won't be at the store anymore to help you choose your next pair of glasses or repair the ones the dog ate or got run over. But I will still see you out in the community from time to time.
The store will be staying open and there will be a new face to greet you. A lovely lady by the name of Marcia, will be taking over the helm. Treat her well please.
You may see me there , lurking in the background for a little bit still as she gets comfortable with the store.
I'm thrilled that the doors will remain open....the community deserves that. Dr Specs has been well supported over the years and it is nice to see that it will continue to be here for years to come.
Thank you for being my customers....my friends...and for making the store my home away from home.
Retirement....here I come! 🤓
