Yesterday, September 30th, was The National Day For Truth And Reconciliation, but that does not mean that we stop talking about restorative justice today. If you are someone like me who is not Native and wants to know how you can be a good ally and advocate for Indigenous Peoples in Canada, the most important first step you can take is to get informed. Research our country's history and learn about Indigenous communities, from Indigenous community members. Learn about what is happening to Indigenous Communities around you today, and how you can support them, whether that be through signing petitions, sharing news, or showing up! It can feel overwhelming when looking at everything that is happening in our country right now and thinking that your voice is too small to make any kind of impact. But showing up in your community is where the most change can start today.

Right now, my focus is on The Grassy Narrows First Nations as they fight against threats of their land being given to logging, mining, and nuclear waste companies by the Ontario government, and as they continue to advocate for their mercury-poisined rivers to be cleaned up after the Dryden Paper Mill dumped mercury in their rivers in the 1960s, which has left multiple generations with mercury poisoning. On September 23 the annual River Run rally took place in downtown Toronto to call for the provincial and federal government to finally meet with the Grassy Narrows First Nations, to provide compensation and to finally clean the still contaminated water on their land.

September at Chapter and Verse🍂
Tomorrow we will be celebrating our anniversary and the Pirate Party downtown with our bogo sale and a giveaway, and next weekend on the 12th we will be welcoming author Michael Scott into the space for a Meet the Author and book signing event, featuring his newest book, Fire On The Hill!
Starting on the 18th, I will be unavailable by phone or email and will not be able to respond to any messages until the 27th. Chapter and Verse will still be open to the public during this time with a self-checkout option!

Did you know that interactive books are important for your babies not just because they're more interesting to your child, but also because it helps with sensory development and improving fine motor skills. A babies' primary way of exploring the world around them is through touch, and this way they get a better understanding of how their body works and how the world around them responds to these interactions!
So that being said, yes you can touch these monsters!
