In 2006, I was diagnosed with the Gillain Barre after spending 8 days at Ottawa General. My career as a fashion designer was growing and growing when suddenly everything came to a halt. I went through so many emotions and the hardest thing was re-learning how to walk. Last night as I was visiting a friend who was admitted to the hospital I was introduced to a young man who was diagnosed with Gillain Barre Syndrome. After discussing with him, I expressed that with a positive mind set and hard work he could overcome all of the obstacles he would face in the days, weeks, months and years to come. I know I’ve been there. Cried a lot in silence but was determined to live a better life than what I was dealt with. You are never alone and asking for help is nothing to be ashamed of.
