34+ YEARS of Learning Textile Design - The Creative Journey Continues! 🧶 🧵

Can you believe that even after three decades in business in Oceanside (+ many more in the industry!), I’m still finding new ways to fall in love with textiles?

It’s been a busy few weeks here in my studio, but with spring in the air and the weekend finally here, I had to share what I’ve been up to! 🌸🌼

While I’m still hard at work on all your special alterations and custom projects, I’ve been steadily carving out time for my own line of creative, upcycled wearable art. 🧑‍🎨

If you’d asked me three weeks ago if I’d be learning THIS... I probably would’ve said, "I don’t think so!" (But as you can see in the photos, I already had the "pillow" for it! 🤣)

Taking a field trip to see a Bobbin Lace demo (and everything lace that came my way recently!) was such a beautiful reminder that my creativity never stands still. There is always a new rhythm to learn and a new way to manipulate thread into art.

34+ Years of Design: Service and Artistry are a Love Language. ❤️🧵

Happy “PALentine’s Day” to my wonderful community challenging my skills and creativity every day for 34 years!

Today doesn’t have to be just for romance; it’s a day to celebrate our people, and basically, love. ❤️ And the simple truth that love is better than hate. 🥳

As Bad Bunny reminded us recently: "The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love." He followed it with a simple plea: "So, please, we need to be different." It’s a philosophy I stitch into absolutely everything I do. (And I’m naturally different and loving it!)

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the nature of relational business. It’s so important to me that when you bring me an alteration, or a piece for redesign, or consultation, you aren’t just paying for a hem or a seam - you’re benefiting from three decades+ of expertise and my commitment to your personal goals and happiness. Keeping fast fashion out of landfills spreads love to people everywhere, too. ♻️ 💕

I’m so grateful for my clients who recognize that craft and time have a value that goes beyond the price tag. The bottom line is that it’s always about people and treating them with respect. Kindness and respect for the artistry behind the garments keeps me I loving what I do. 🥰🙏

I was almost a “Palentine’s Day” baby and I’m celebrating another trip around the sun next week, so it’s my birthday week!! I received this lovely BD card yesterday in the mail, and it got me thinking, I love kind people; and I’m more committed than ever to the art of service, slow intentional eco fashion, quality, and my love of textiles and design. 🥰 📬

34+ Years of Textile Love: 💕 The Soul of the Stitch 🧵🪡

Every stitch has a story. Let’s honour the new life they provide, and the hands that give them meaning!

Tomorrow, February 8th, marks a beautiful Japanese tradition called Hari-Kuyo - the "Festival of Broken Needles”. 🪡 It is a day to pause and give thanks to the tiny, hardworking tools that have served all year, and offer gestures of gratitude for their service. 🙏

This ritual flows perfectly into the movement. Winter is the perfect season to slow down, look at our wardrobes with fresh eyes, and mend what we already love (or don’t quite love yet!). ❤️

In my studio, I believe nothing is truly waste - hence, my “zero waste” studio philosophy for 34 years! ♻️ Check out my new design in-progress: upcycled denim hem fabric flowers and creative patchwork! 👇😊

My goal is to honor and appreciate the "soul" of the materials and the stitch. It’s about respecting our resources and finding the unique beauty in what was once considered broken. (Also like Kintsugi - the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with real gold.) 💎
