Taz Dyer and Wayne Creasor wondering (while a picnic table gets its feet wet) about the idiots leaving garbage, junk & old tires on the wild islands we all call home. Taz made the point that dogs don't do that - they only p**p and p*e - and if there were dog thunderboxes, why they would happily use 'em no problem. He ventured that they would even pick up garbage if it smelled good!

Here's a few paddlers leaving Snug Harbour for our 2025 Franklin Challenge.

What is the Franklin Challenge? We're glad you asked! 100 paddlers will be gathering on June 21, 2026 at Snug Harbour for a 20km circumnavigation of Franklin Island or a shorter 8km there-and-back route. The event is FREE but all paddlers are asked to fundraise in support of the Outer Island Project. (find out more here: https://georgianbaybiosphere.com/outer-islands/)

Spots are filling up quickly. Don't have a kayak or canoe? No worries, you can rent one from White Squall who will deliver it to the event.

When Tim was young and had to answer the dreaded question 'so...what are you planning to do after high school?' he was competing with friends planning to be welders, lawyers, carpenters and other fine upstanding careers. After much thought and coaching from his brother, he landed on... " Think I'll be a Fresh Air Mechanic!"

Despite puzzled looks, that's what happened and after 41 years of endless White Squall T-shirts, decided it was time to celebrate this fine profession and share it with others - in hopes there will be continued aspiring FAM's down the road :)

Mothers, caregivers — this is your gentle reminder to make time for you. Whether it’s paddling, painting, or simply pausing for a quiet moment, you deserve it.

A little story from 20 years ago… I walked into White Squall as a young mom, determined to find a kayak big enough to fit both me and one of my young kids. I explained my plan to Jack (you remember Jack??) — and without missing a beat, he said, “Why the hell would you want to do that?”

Then he did something even better — he convinced me to choose a boat just for me.

Best advice ever.

That kayak became my escape. My breathing room. A place to recharge so I could return to everything (and everyone) I love with a fuller heart.

So here’s to you — may you find your own version of that space, whatever it looks like.
