Pimento spread, Christmas jam, crackers. Spending this holiday at work and not at home, as we do, and reminding everyone that this land and the people on it existed long before Leif Erikson landed in Newfoundland; long before Columbus landed in the Caribbean; long before Giovani Caboto landed on the east coast; long before Martin Frobisher landed in Nunavut (said to be the first “thanksgiving feast” in 1578).
The people of Turtle Island have been celebrating the autumnal harvests by having thanksgiving feasts long before those men “discovered” this land.
So however you celebrate this day, whoever you’re spending it with, may it be a peaceful one.
