This order was another one of the big things I had to share. I have two new animals added to the Stitched With Love By Steph family and a new embroidery option to offer!!

Brad came to me a few months ago on the anniversary of his wife's tragic passing. He shared beautiful stories of Sam with me and asked if I could work with her wedding dress. I absolutely love being able to do this. Sam's dress was a beautiful white satin dress with a lace overlay and beautiful beading detail at the bust I knew right away I had to include the lace and the beading.

As we talked about different options I could embroider Brad asked if he gave me a picture of Sam's fingerprints if I could embroider that. I was up for the challenge and told Brad he would be there along the way to give the approval. It took me a few tries, but was able to create the embroidery file the only issue was it is larger than her real fingerprint (it is about 2.5" x 1") to go any smaller I was loosing the details of the ridge pattern. Brad told me he thought it was perfect and to go ahead with that size.

First up was an elephant that Brad will be keeping- he told me a sweet story about an elephant he gifted Sam. We thought the print on the elephant's foot would be the perfect placement. The main body of the elephant came from the main dress the lace was used for the tusks and inner ears. The beading was used for a belt and those tiny little wedding dress buttons that went down the back of Sam's dress got carefully attached to the elephant's back. Beautiful blue eyes were the extra personal touch.

Next up was a chicken - a first for me. This one is for Sam's mom who loves chickens. The print was put on the chicken's tummy. Lace was used for the wings, comb and giblets. I had some of that beautiful beading left so gave the chicken a lovely little bracelet. It was also given blue eyes.

Next was another first a sea turtle. For this one the print went on the shell. Lace was used for the shell with a space cut out for the print so it didn't get covered. The last little bit of the beading was the perfect size for a necklace for the turtle. Then the turtle was finished off with big blue eyes.

I am honoured that Brad allowed me the creativity to make these out of the dress in the best way I pictured them coming together. I truly hope these pieces help keep Sam close to those they will be with forever and that they help with the healing journey. Thanks again Brad for allowing me this opportunity to be part of Sam's story.

Dropped off this cute little bear today for Kaeden. I don't know the story behind this except the sweater belonged to someone who has passed and this bear will be gifted to a brand new baby girl. The sweater had a solid blue band at the bottom of the arms and body which I was able to use for the inner ears, place for the nose and place perfectly at the end of the hands. What a great way to keep a loved ones memories going strong.

This great big 2 foot custom made butterfly was gifted today at sweet Sophia's 1st birthday. Made using the cutest hospital blankets I have ever seen. The left wing has her name and the right wing has all her birth stats. I think it as big as she is lol. I am so happy I was able to surprise her mommy with it today.

Sabrina's late father had a lot of ties. Sabrina provided me with a bucket of ties that her mom had plans to turn into pillows, unfortunately she didn't get to them before she also passed. I took a look through the bin and matched ties based on colours to make the pillows. The ties had a lot of personality that I wanted to showcase. The best way to do this was to open up the ties and cut rectangular pieces in the same sizes. The pillows are finished off with a zipper so the pillow form can be removed and replaced as needed.

Alright guys and gals. I went to the baby shower yesterday and gifted this sweet little baby duck so now I can share.

Aislinn Goodman is a sweet young lady who we have known for most of her life her family and ours are close and she calls me aunt Steph even though there is no blood relationship.

When Ais' mom Michelle Sedore-Goodman told me about the baby shower I asked if there was a theme for baby girl or if they had a name picked out so I could make her something I suggested a bear, butterfly etc. Michelle told me that baby girl's name is Daphne and they have already been calling her Daphie Duck. It became my mission to make my first duck. Michelle asked for traditional yellow duck with "girly" accents.

I first had to find a pattern. The pattern is from Funky Friends Factory where most of my patterns come from. I then used the softest yellow fleece for the little duck body, a peach for the feet and beak and pink for the wings. Then I used the beautiful rainbow thread to machine embroidery her name and year of birth.

I can't wait to meet little Daphne and see her with her little ducky.

I often get asked if I can work with fur to make a bear or stuffed animal and the answer is yes. I was pleased to do something new with fur when Sharon connected with me to make another project for her. This time she wanted pillows!
She had some grey and green faux leather to use on the back and provided me with 5 pillow forms. The details were to make at least one pillow with a green back and one with a grey back. From there it was to try to make as many pillows I could with the fur coat.
I carefully measured the pillows and made a plan to make five pillows. First I took the sleeves off the coat in order to make the rectangular pillows. I needed a few more inches for these and the solution was to remove the collar of the coat which was a lovely cream colour and sew it to the top of the sleeves in order to complete the rectangular pillows. The three square pillows came from the body of the coat where I was able to have just enough for what was needed. The pillows each have a zipper so the pillow form can easily be replaced if needed.
I know fur isn't everyone's favourite thing and it is a subject of controversy, however I am pleased to make a previously loved coat into items that are easy to display. My hope with these pillows like with every item I make is that they bring up conversations about the person who once proudly wore the coat hence keeping their memory alive and strong.
Thank you Sharon for trusting me with another project.

This sweet bear was gifted to my great niece for her first birthday yesterday.

The bear is made from her hospital blanket when she was born and increased in size to use as much of the blanket as possible. I made sure the stripes were prominent by using them for the outter part of the arms and legs, the inner ears, the feet, the forehead and the back. I didn't want the stripes on the front because I didn't want them to take away from the embroidery. I picked a font to embroider her name and year of birth in that reminded me of a child's writing the heart isn't "coloured" in all the way to make it look as if it was a child who coloured it in. The heart represents her birthday being valentine's day.

I love when a project tests my creativity and my patience.

This project for Phyllis did just that. Phyllis came to me looking to have her late mom's clothes turned into keepsakes. Phyllis asked for a blanket and a bear.

The bear was pretty easy to figure out I was given a red cardigan sweater for the bear I was able to keep the pocket that was on the front of the cardigan and make the bear have a functional pocket on its belly. Phyllis asked me to embroider a nose on so I went with a brown colour that matched the eyes. I was also given a plaid shirt and asked if I could use that to make a shirt for the bear. The shirt has a functional pocket on the front and the buttons on it came off the bigger shirt. Instead of button holes I put snaps on under the buttons to make it easier for her grandson to take the shirt on and off.

The blanket was where I was tested. Phyllis was having this made for her son and wanted it as big as possible. She had a blanket that she wanted used for the back. That blanket had a folded edge that Phyllis liked the look of and asked the finished blanket have that same look. This is where the test of my patience came into play I had to carefully use my seem ripper to take out the folded edge of the blanket - a job that took me 5 hours to complete. It was worth it in the end I like how the finished edge came out.
Phyllis provided me with blue, red and tan clothing from her mom and asked I use different size pieces. That wasn't a problem my creativity was tested when Phyllis mentioned that she wanted random but to be even (so all the big squares weren't on just one side). I got out my trusty sketch book and after figuring out the three sizes of squares I was going to use I made a gride laying out not only where to place the different sizes but also where to place the different colored items so I didn't end up with all the red together. The other thing I did was incorporate pockets from the two plaid shirts and from the track pants. There are five functional pockets on the blanket.
With all the planning done it was time to put the whole thing together. The final size of the blanket was 73" long by 60" wide.

Thank you Phyllis for testing me with this project but also for trusting me. You allowed me to come up with whatever plan I felt would fit in the guidlines you provided. You allowed me to create something that can be loved and cherished for years to come. Thank you for trusting me with you mom's belongings and to help keep her close at hand.
