When Cusomers learn we are a Provincially inspected they often wonder why and what that means
Why does provincial inspection matter?
When you choose Beam & Blade Butchers, you're choosing a facility that operates under Saskatchewan's Domestic Meat Inspection Program, administered by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. The program's standards were developed under The Animal Production Regulations in cooperation with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre Inc.
This program is not meant to be a powerhouse of restrictive oversight but rather a common sense approach that helps processing plants such as ours, offer the best of the best by giving producers an advantage avenue to distribute their livestock with peace of mind and keep Saskatchewan families eating Saskatchewan Meat.
For you, this means far more than simply having your livestock processed—it means your animals are entering a system built on rigorous oversight, accountability, and food safety.
Every slaughter takes place under inspection. Before an animal can be processed, it must be inspected and authorized for slaughter by an inspector. Following slaughter, the carcass and internal organs are carefully examined, and nothing enters the food supply until it has been approved. If concerns are identified, inspectors have the authority to place animals or carcasses on hold, require additional investigation or testing, or condemn them if they are not fit for human consumption. In specific situations, additional testing, such as Kidney Inhibition Swab (KIS) testing for drug residues, is required to help ensure the meat is safe.
The oversight doesn't end there. Our facility is continually required to meet rigorous provincial standards for sanitation, humane animal handling, employee hygiene, water quality, temperature control, traceability, and overall food safety. These aren't one-time inspections—they are ongoing requirements designed to protect both producers and consumers.
When you trust Beam & Blade Butchers with your livestock, you're choosing one of the highest levels of oversight available for provincially processed meat in Saskatchewan. It's a system designed to protect your investment, safeguard the food supply, and give you confidence that the meat you're taking home & selling to your customers has been processed with care, integrity, and to rigorous provincial standards.
We're proud to uphold those standards every single day.
