This is not the message I want to be writing to you, but it is the one I need to write.

I've made the incredibly difficult decision to close Queen of Cups Lingerie at the end of 2021.

The reasons are many and varied, and you can probably guess most of them. When it comes to COVID-19 and the pandemic, for many small business owners like me, it has been death by a thousand cuts. What it comes down to, however, is my health and the health of my family.

What does this mean for you, my dear customers and students?

I will only be taking orders until October 31, and only from existing customers.

All current outstanding orders will be completed. If you've placed an order, we will continue working to get it done.

Because of supply and staffing issues, delivery times for custom and semi-custom orders will be longer than usual, unless it is a completed/in stock item. I will not be taking orders for bridal or special event wear.

I will be placing my inventory and some equipment for sale. If you are interested in learning more about this, please send me a message you'll receive more information about it after orders close on October 31.

I will continue to make bras for existing clients on a much smaller scale if you wish to order in the future.

Lastly, thank you. Thank you for supporting my business, and me. Thank you for every positive comment you've given, for every friend you've recommended, for taking a leap and trying something completely different when it comes to buying your underwear. I cannot express how grateful I am for all of you, and your support over the past six years.

I recently did a survey of people on my mailing list. On average, respondents own 8 bras but wear fewer than half. Some owned as many as 20! The average purchase price? $80.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For almost the same price as you paid for those 8 bras, you could have invested in 3 custom bras that were made to fit you. You would own bras that were ethically sourced, the person who sewed your bra by hand earned a fair wage, and you’d reduce the environmental footprint. We use Lenzing Tencel Modal fabric in our burgundy bras. It's made from a combination of synthetic and wood fibres. Its production has a smaller environmental footprint than organic cotton - 20 times less water and yields up to 10x as high. The fabric is biodegradable and compostable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It's also more resistant to pilling, has better recovery, is super soft, more absorbent, and doesn't break down as fast as cotton. It's a fabric that looks better and lasts longer, which means you don't have to buy as frequently. That decreases the impact on the environment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

August has been the longest and shortest month of the year.
We took a break from posting constantly on social media. The point is hammered home to business owners to post, post, post consistently. No matter how many clever systems you set up, no matter how much you plan, sometimes you simply run out of time, steam, and motivation.
One of my favourite parts of this month is watching everyone’s posts for Braugust. I love seeing your creativity and skill!

For a complete switch: this post isn’t about my products. It’s also not an affiliate or ad post. I just want to tell you about an amazing Canadian company !
I’ve been following this company for awhile. They tick all the boxes that I care about when I’m looking for new clothing-environmentally conscious, woman-owned, transparent about where and how their clothes are made (in Canada!) but also their tights are just BEAUTIFUL.
This company was the inspiration behind our shift to a pre-order model, which is more efficient and generates less waste. So I saved my pennies and bought their squat proof tights and shorts.
They did not disappoint! Sizing was accurate (and they have a wide size range). The high waist has two full sized pockets that fit a phone. More importantly, they stay in place. I’m usually tugging the waist of my leggings or shorts up partway through a run or workout, but not these babies. They are well constructed and designed, and worth every penny. And all those pennies are going to fair wages, minimizing environmental impact, empowering women, and building this Canadian business- just like us!
I encourage you to check them out, if you’re looking for high quality workout bottoms that stand out from the boring sea of black.
