This goes out to all of our Indigenous brothers and sisters who are the original settlers of the land we live and work at, yet were forcibly tried to be removed, forgotten, or worse, changed as the colonizers tried to claim what was not theirs and transform it into their own.
Let us remember the suffering all of them had to endure back when residential schools disguised as boarding reformatory schools stripped all of the Indigenous people their identity and turn them into Euro-Canadian commodities, where beautiful Indigenous women were conditioned to believe that they do not amount to anything to as far as devaluing their then highly respected roles as childbearers and homemakers, where getting rid of strong Indigenous menβs long braids symbolizing strength, wisdom, and rich culture meant a step closer to getting rid of the last Indian identity there is in Canada.
But what they did not know is that the Indigenous spirit is engrained far deeper than the abuse, the torment, the forever trauma they have inflictedβthat each and every children, women, and men who had to endure all of the suffering will actually be the incarnation of a much stronger generation of Indigenous folks who are HERE and are going to end the still existent oppression towards the Indigenous ancestry.
Tomorrow is not just a day of truth and reconcilliation but also a day of education for you and me who are trying to graciously tread into the Indigenous treaties.
