Come check out the art display at the shop, in honour of Josh’s father, Brian Romer, who we lost last year.
Brian was born in Vancouver and began painting at a young age, encouraged by a father who loved two things: fishing and painting. Brian preferred cleaning brushes to cleaning salmon, and spent much of his youth under the influence of abstract expressionism.
He studied art at Magee High before heading south to the University of Oregon, eventually earning a Master’s Degree — in business, of all things. Life took him through Montreal, New York, Calgary and Edmonton before eventually bringing him home to the West Coast.
Over the years, Brian’s work became more representational, inspired by the natural beauty around him. He painted nearly every day from his Sunshine Coast studio, and whenever possible, outside amongst the trees with an 8” × 10” board on his lap.
Brian never wanted to take his art too seriously. He wanted it to be fun. And in his later years, he painted furiously — in what he joked would undoubtedly be a futile attempt to get them all done.
We’re proud to have some of Brian’s work hanging in the shop and to share a little piece of him with the community.
Come by, have a look, and enjoy the work of a man who simply loved to paint.
All artwork is for sale, with payment available by e-transfer.
