These late season blooms are feeding the bees, butterflies and moths that are still fluttering around and I love it!!
We are going to leave our wildflowers and butterfly gardens up over winter. There is no need to pull them out as part of your fall clean up. In fact, the seed heads feed the birds and the spent plants provide a habitat for insects to settle into overwinter. They need these safe spaces so let’s leave the gardens and help our little friends thrive.

And as a bonus, it’s one less thing to do on your fall clean up list!

Nestled in the heart of Elgin County, Sparta Lavender Farm is a place where nature, community and connection come together. Owners 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗿 and 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗱 took over the property in 2022, embracing the opportunity to continue its lavender legacy while creating a welcoming space for visitors to slow down, unwind and discover the beauty of the natural landscape.

Spanning 𝟰𝟬 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁, the farm is much more than a lavender destination. Karen and Bert are passionate about 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 and 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮. With approximately 15 varieties of lavender, the gardens are gradually evolving into a botanical garden, with native plants, bird habitats and a growing food forest helping shape the farm’s future.

Visitors can explore the gardens, enjoy a pre-booked charcuterie picnic, participate in art classes, or experience offerings such as Reiki and sound baths. The farm shop features a growing collection of lavender-inspired products, including 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝗼𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝘀, 𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘆𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘀, 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗺. Through harvesting and distilling their own lavender, Karen and Bert bring the benefits and versatility of this remarkable plant to visitors to enjoy at home.

For Karen and Bert, the heart of Sparta Lavender Farm is creating a space where people and nature can thrive together. The hydrangeas are in the spotlight!
These beautiful flowers continue to brighten the gardens and remind us that autumn has its own kind of magic. Cool mornings, golden light, and one more reason to slow down and enjoy the season. 🍂🌿

Autumn is a beautiful time in the gardens, and it’s a great time for a road trip! Come for a wander, relax and soak up the sunshine!

Fall garden clean up? Not too much… we are going to leave our wildflower gardens to be used as a habitat for the insects to overwinter. The seed heads will feed birds and they all add interest to the winter garden.

There’s still some colour in the plants, and the Carolinian forest is gearing up for its autumn show! 🍁🍂 come on out for a visit! Our lavender gardens and field close as of this weekend. Our farm shop is open Wednesday to Sundays 11am-5pm right through to the end of December!

September is a beautiful time to visit the farm.
The gardens are still full of colour, the wildflowers are blooming, and the pollinators are busy at work. It’s the perfect time to slow down, wander the paths, and enjoy the beauty of the season.
