I had this idea of creating a cool textile on canvas for some future projects. I wanted to try a resist dye using a flour paste and then ice dye overtop.
At one point, while the ice was melting, I thought it was looking SO cool and got really excited about how it was turning out. The end result, however… not quite it 😂
The resist didn’t work the way I had imagined, and the dye didn’t take as well as I had hoped. (Partly my own fault—I realized afterward that I hadn’t properly treated the fabric beforehand 🤦♀️).
But this is exactly why sampling is so important! Not everything is a win, but every experiment is a lesson. And honestly, sometimes the “fails” are where you learn the most.
Back to the drawing board! ✨
